With reproductive and sexual healthcare under attack throughout the country, California is leading the way in protecting access to abortions, gender-affirming care, and patient privacy. I am proud to have received a 100% score from Planned Parenthood @ppactionca.bsky.social.

Congrats to President pro Tempore Monique Limón on becoming the first Latina leader of the State Senate. I look forward to working with Limón on legislation to protect Californians and improve affordability, and thank her for trusting me to serve as Chair of the Housing and Public Safety committees.

Happy New Year! 2026 is setting up to be a busy year as we double down on efforts to address affordability and protect Californians from harmful cuts from the federal administration. What policies and actions do you want to see the State pursue this year?

Plans for a Veterans Affairs clinic and cemetery at Alameda, which received $395M in federal funds with bipartisan support, was suddenly axed by the Trump administration. The 270,000 veterans that call the Bay Area home deserve better than this betrayal. alamedapost.com/news/we-figh...

My team toured the West County Waste Water Plant to see their facilities and advancements in green waste treatment technology. The site is also where the Living Levee project is located, preserving natural habitat while protecting North Richmond from floods.

As Jewish families around the world light the first candle of the menorah this evening, let that light remind us of the resiliency that outshines the darkness. As we mourn the horrific attack in Sydney, we must commit ourselves to overcoming antisemitism and all forms of hate.

Our team got a chance to see firsthand the Oakland Fire Department's immense training that is required to respond to everyday emergency needs. Thank you to Local 55 and all firefighter in our region for keeping our communities safe.

Touring the OAK Airport seismic improvement project, reinforcing nearly a mile of the airport's perimeter dike from earthquakes and rising sea levels while protecting wetlands. This project will keep our airport safe, our economy moving, and our environment pristine.

Today marks #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities. The Disability Rights Movement was born in the East Bay, with advocates like Ed Roberts, Judy Huemann, and Hale Zukas paving the way for a more inclusive and accessible world.

This #WorldAIDSDay, we remember those we have lost while renewing efforts to continue advancing preventative measures and treatment, fighting the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, and supporting science that will one day eradicate this virus.

Tomorrow, @seiuca.org President David Huerta will go to court after peacefully exercising his First Amendment rights at an ICE raid in LA when he was tackled and detained. We will not be intimidated. I stand with Huerta, working families, immigrants, & democracy.

November is Trans Awareness Month. At a time when trans rights are under attack nationally, California has been leading the way in advancing rights. I am proud to stand with the LGBTQ community in approving legislation to protect gender-affirming care and patient privacy.

California’s efforts to preserve our offshore natural resources has been vital in protecting local economies and advancing our climate goals. I strongly oppose offshore drilling, which undermines the progress we have made. We can meet our energy needs without risking oil spills.

Today I hosted a hearing on the federal impacts on CalFresh, which 5.5 million Californians rely on. Because of Trump's actions, 395,000 Californians could lose coverage. I am committed to protecting communities from devastating long-term cuts to SNAP. sd07.senate.ca.gov/news/395000-...

The shutdown is not stopping Congress from threatening states' rights while harming public safety. H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Mandate, would let people from other states ignore state laws and carry guns without a permit. I call on Congress to oppose this dangerous legislation.

Dozens of East Bay residents, including my office, volunteered at the @accfb.bsky.social today. I am inspired to see so many people step up and give their time to support those in need. This is what community looks like.

Millions of Californians are at risk of going hungry as CalFresh and other federal benefits are delayed. But we don’t wait — we act.

Step up and support your neighbors: volunteer, donate, or spread the word. Together, we can help those in need.
