Non-reader boyfriend update:

He’s finished his second book of the year (Project Hail Mary) and loved it - another win for my book loaning skills.

Starting the feel the pressure to keep the momentum going - book recommendations are very welcome!

My (not a reader) boyfriend just finished the book I bought him for Christmas in record time. Feeling a strange sense of pride in my book buying abilities.

(For those interested, it was This Way Up by the brilliant @jayforeman.bsky.social and @markcooperjones.bsky.social)

Found two (2) of my favourite albums in the second hand vinyl shop in my city. Will be using Kate Bush as the soundtrack for next week.

Finished a book where every chapter was only three pages long.

I didn’t think that was something I’d mind, but the scene transitions felt weirdly jarring.

600 pages read in a day?? I think it’s a new personal record!!

I spent all afternoon hooked on Bride. It’s the first Ali Hazelwood book I’ve read, but it really took me straight back to my tween Wattpad roots. Can’t wait to get my hands on Mate some point this week.

Two books finished this morning? What a day!!

Fair Rosaline by Natasha Simmons: A very interesting retelling of Romeo and Juliet, and I liked the subversion of Romeo’s character.

I was expecting something more similar in tone to the Disney+ film, but the darker twists worked for me.

Finished Laura Bates’ New Age of Sexism last night.

The book is incredibly well researched, and utterly shocking. I had no idea the extent to which misogyny at the very foundations of the AI revolution, and how safety has been not only ignored, but completely disregarded by big tech.

I have been dithering for years about when to stop judging The Great British Bake Off. When I joined nine years ago, I thought, since I was in my mid-seventies, that I’d be lucky to manage two years. ...

Rewatching The Walking Dead at the moments, and we spend 90% of the episode talking about what we would do if there was an actual zombie apocalypse.

Currently, I’m hanging out at home with my books until I run out of food (very exciting I know)

Still feeling slightly nauseous from that one scene.

Just finished reading Intermezzo. It’s the only Sally Rooney and the first stream of consciousness novel I’ve read. I was really taken by how intimate and vulnerable the internal monologues felt, and just how real the characters appeared. Highly recommend.
