Miyazaki survived the bombing of Utsunomiya as a child. His family escaped in a car, but left a neighbor and her daughter behind to save themselves. Miyazaki regrets this, and said this has stayed with him and shaped his film making. He hopes his audience will learn the courage he lacked in 1945.

Made the eggplant and tomato gratin from the official Persona cookbook for dinner last night. It was delicious.

A dark green round casserole pot, filled with a mixture of sliced tomatoes and eggplants in béchamel sauce with a mixture of smoked Gouda and mozzarella cheeses, topped with panko and baked until golden brown.
