In today's Random Old Game Music, I don't know what exactly Monty is running from, but damn he's got a good theme song for it. #retrogame #gamemusic www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ecg...

Suddenly remembered (for no reason) there was an episode of The Real Ghostbusters where they went to Paris and discovered the Eiffel Tower was actually an antiquated containment unit and it was spewing millions of French ghosts into the city. Now you can think about it, too!

Had a bizarre urge to load up Eye of the Beholder 2, and I had to let my gut guide me as I picked names based on these portraits. #dosgame

Ok, I have to admit that getting a unified (albeit still placeholder) UI in place really does help make the whole thing feel way better and immediately exposes other needs. #indiedev #indiegame #solodev

While not technically Random Old Game music, it seems like a great day for everyone to enjoy rushjet1's remix of The Moon from Ducktales. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy7J...

I started the morning intending to work on some UI elements and now it's 3:30 and I've written an entire framework to manage narrative sequences using the map engine and have not touched a single piece of UI. #indiedev

10/2 - Quest for Glory IV

All of the Quest for Glories were great (ok, maybe not V...), but IV struck such a different tone with its dark, eldritch horror vibes and general sense of gloom. You were still the Hero, but it felt like you were against the darkest forces you'd yet faced. #365games

Autumn always makes me wonder
when the leaves all fall asunder
is it by their own volition?
are they on a special mission?
if I had to take my chances
I think they'd rather stay on the branches
safe and sound up in a tree
instead of on the ground with me

When I'm playing a game by myself vs AI, I don't *want* it to be perfectly balanced. Sometimes I want to be put in a bad situation and have to be clever to work my way out of it. Sometimes I want to have all the advantages and just trounce the computer! It's ok for single player to be asymmetric!

But of what disappointed me so much about Civ 7 was how so many of the decisions were made in the name of "balancing" the game for multiplayer. That's all well and good, but shouldn't be at the sacrifice of what is (for (I think) most people) a single player experience.

9/30 - Final Fantasy Tactics

It wasn't the first tactical RPG, but it was the first one I played. The incredible depth of the job system, the sprawling story, and the lovely music and art pulled me in entirely. This was the kind of game I wanted to make myself someday. #365games

You must harness your latent skills at grinding the Mandalia Plains. (I just got past Dorter entirely on the back of my black mage and it felt great)
