Govt to rush climate target change through Parliament under urgency
The public will not have their say on the Govt's weakening of the methane target, even though it could raise household bills by $270 a year.

Apparently, they consider 32 years long enough to wipe the public memory. This is the same Ruth Richardson who entrenched child poverty and homelessness in a previously egalitarian country
IMHO, this whole Ruth Richardson vs Willis debate is a beat-up designed to make Willis look more moderate and to give her an excuse to make even bigger cuts to public servants and social services. They are not to be trusted, and this is manufactured meddling.

Simon says cap your rates – how will councils respond?
The Govt says councils must live within their means – but overseas evidence on rate caps is mixed, while local authorities fear a loss of 'critical investment' in infrastructure

Christopher Luxon confirms "we will be getting rid of regional councillors" only weeks after New Zealanders voted those councillors in. Another example of his govt forcing territorial authorities to spend large sums of money & then scapegoating them for spending money #nzpol

This article misses the point - the formal Coalition Agreement sets out to subvert MMP. It also sidelines Parliament, reducing it to a rubber stamp for the executive. It is fundamentally anti-democratic, a point the Regulatory Standards vote illustrates #nzpol thespinoff.co.nz/politics/28-...
Underdog tale: the regulatory standards bill is law despite almost everyone hating it
From one perspective it’s troubling for our democracy. From another, it’s inspiring for all of us who persist in spite of the revulsion we engender in allies and opponents alike.
