I cover the #Bucks for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I take my coffee intravenously & my Wu-Tang loud. Black lives matter. he/him/his

Hip hip Jorge! 🙌

Have to say Sheng Wang was awesome tonight in Milwaukee. Hilarious.

(And huge credit to the crowd for not trying to participate!)

This whole exercise of not naming the starters is so dumb. The books are out. It doesn't matter.
cyrthogg.bsky.social
The Brewers aren't naming a starting pitcher for tomorrow yet. Aaron Ashby will pitch in some capacity after throwing 32 pitches yesterday.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
So, sounds like "maybe" Irving will play, so move him up to miss time to start.

Can't believe I forgot the bigs in Memphis, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey...

Hey #NBASky

If you're on Reddit, I'm moving over there for a while for an AMA!

jimowczarski.bsky.social
That's a helluva way to pass that news on lol.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
I inferred it from his comments on taking it slow, but that could well be the case -- I'll move him over to "miss start of the season" next time I round that up. #NBASky
jimowczarski.bsky.social
Definitely. I guess I should've included Paul George because some of the comments made it seem like he'd miss the start of the year, whereas with Embiid I just can't tell!
jimowczarski.bsky.social
When I read his comments, that's what I inferred. Could be wrong of course. But *usually* that's the case with an ACL. Same with the Achilles tears we saw last year.

One reason why Giannis Antetokounmpo spoke the other day was because this #Bucks team is relatively young & new to him - he knew he had to say *something* about his commitment to them.

Because his future will linger over their present. The latest via Lori Nickel

Bucks face questions about Giannis' future, team's future, after ESPN report about fizzled trade with Knicks | Nickel
How are the Bucks handling questions that have surfaced following ESPN's report about a potential trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Knicks?
www.jsonline.com
jimowczarski.bsky.social
They would not want Towns on their own (IMO). So if the point is to trade Towns to get Giannis in NY ... then the Knicks would have to handle that lift (shrug).
jimowczarski.bsky.social
There we go. I feel like I missed them because, well, that is regular(?)
jimowczarski.bsky.social
I did forget Damian Lillard (facepalm). I guess I was thinking more of teams in *obvious* contention in either conference.

On Oct. 8, Rivers said Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to play in Chicago on Sunday -- but as of yesterday Rivers was noncommittal to that happening. #NBASky
jimowczarski.bsky.social
So, the #Bucks changed their plan today from a practice to a walkthrough/shootaround.

That means Doc Rivers didn't have to speak today.

But, we did see Kyle Kuzma (hip) back on the court.

Also, Giannis Antetokounmpo was running around in a controlled setting. #NBASky
jimowczarski.bsky.social
That's wild. Did I miss anyone? (I think* Ja Morant and Jaylin Williams will be good to go in Memphis & Oklahoma City?) #NBASky
jimowczarski.bsky.social
In the Eastern Conference:
Darius Garland, Max Strus (Cavs) will miss the start the season.
Tyler Herro (Heat)
Jalen Suggs (Magic)
Are probably going to miss the start the season.

Jayson Tatum (Celtics) and Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers) out for the season.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
I've tried to stay caught up, but the Western Conference will not have:
LeBron James (Lakers)
Fred VanVleet, Dorian Finney-Smith (Rockets)
De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper (Spurs)
to begin the season.

Kyrie Irving (Mavs) is out for the season.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
Like, $58 million in "flotsam" (h/t @johnhollinger.bsky.social & @zachlowenba.bsky.social for my favorite word in trade discussions) is not going to cut it in Milwaukee for a guy who could win a third MVP this season.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
Because:
* He will require the maximum contract allowed on his next extension.
* The Bucks have no interest in being bad.
* In order to acquire him, you're jettisoning nearly $58M in salary of GOOD players AND whatever 1st Rd. picks aren't nailed down.

The math is hard.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
And, frankly, turns the heat up on Leon Rose and Mikal Bridges. If Bridges struggles/team doesn't win enough, it turns into "they traded ALL the picks for him AND gave him ALL the money and now we can't get Giannis."

But the roster concerns are truly valid re: any deal for Giannis.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
Those who follow me know I don't really deal with rumors/innuendo/speculation -- but this is different in that no party has denied this happened.

So it's fair to try and dig into it.

Also interesting the #Knicks seem displeased this leaked as well. It just adds to the pressure of the season.
jimowczarski.bsky.social
Some interesting #Knicks -related nuggets from @samamick.bsky.social, including that Jalen Brunson would be "untouchable" in any trade convo re: Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Honestly, if Brunson isn't included I'm not sure those "discussions" go any further than they have.

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade saga, and New York Knicks’ interest, is just on hold
Giannis is a Buck for now, and possibly for a while yet. But the superstar's future is uncertain.
