« Science is crystal clear here. Our only chance to recover back to a stable and safe climate is to accelerate the phase-out of fossil-fuels, remove carbon and invest in nature (on land and in the ocean), and do that without trading off between them. »

When the rainforests of the sea and the rainforests of the land are gone… I don’t want to finish that sentence.

This could be our shining moment of courage and solidarity. Our time to show what great things humanity is capable of.

Fight climate change now.

All elected officials, including heads of state, are public servants. Therefore, they should serve the people’s interests.

It’s really that simple.

On campus today, a red-tailed hawk struck a 2nd story window hard enough to smash it.

It has been rescued. Hopefully it will survive.

Window strikes are the 2nd leading anthropogenic source of mortality for birds, killing up to a billion birds a yr in the 🇺🇸.

There are solutions. Let’s use them.

15 November in Queens and trees still have green leaves. The 2nd “anomalous” year in a row in terms of delayed fall senescence.

But shhh. Let’s not utter the words “climate change”.

This, too, is ornamental wildlife trade. And at a time when ocean acidification is putting shelled molluscs at risk by causing shell dissolution, these ancient animals really don’t need this added threat.

On a morning when everyone is posting their incredible photos of the aurora borealis from all over 🇨🇦 and the 🇺🇸 (which we did not see in NYC), I give you these from this morning…

So basically, 0.09 to > 0.1 % of the entire 🇺🇸 population will have been let go from the federal workforce (in addition to all the other job losses) by year’s end. Have I got that right ?

Today, NYC will elect a new mayor.

And lest the scare tactics have folks worried about the “perils” of a young Muslim mayor…

@naheednenshi.bsky.social was 38 when we elected him in 2010. He served Calgary for 3 terms and was a very effective leader.

In fact, he won the World Mayor Prize in 2014.

I’m sorry, but that does not sound like a fun sex life at all.

Painted woolly bats are listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List. Ornamental trade is the top threat they face, and several lines of evidence point to steep declines in at least some populations.

We are doing everything we can to stop the trade.
