I really wanted to like Ella McCay, truly I did. James L. Brooks has made many a wonderful film, but this, this is fairly dreadful. It gave me no pleasure to write this pan, but it’s up at Awards Radar:

Give me a bag of fries and five minutes alone with this guy, and I could have him babbling publicly about how the honorary Oscars need to be restored to the main telecast.

My review won’t be up until tomorrow, but it’s upsetting to see how much Ella McCay doesn’t work. James L. Brooks used to be able to do this kind of story in his sleep, but he’s very much asleep at the switch here, stranding a talented cast with nothing to do. I hate that I hate this one.

I went 68 out of 84 with my Golden Globe predictions (since I dont acknowledge or predict the Cinematic and Box Office Achievemnt or Podcast fields), which is a little better than 80%, including I believe four categories I got perfectly. Not too shabby.
