Went searching/pricing hotels in/near my hometown for my upcoming visit in 2.5 weeks. Electing to forego the honor/torture route for now & have booked a room at the Golden Host in Sarasota. Side benefit of choosing them: the Bahi Hut tiki bar is onsite. If I imbibe, I can stumble to my room.

Received news a short bit ago. My father passed away yesterday morning. He was at home under hospice care and my step-mother was with him in his last moments.
No viewings are planned aside from a graveside ceremony of his cremains in Sarasota under military honors set for January 8th, 2026.

Disconnecting from “the world” for 24hrs or so…give or take. Making use of a friend’s offer to spend some time at her family’s cabin up near Helen. As soon as I claimed a comfy recliner, I had become be-catted by one of the trio of cabin felines.
