The title says it all: “I don’t speak Swahili, but I love data”.
In preparation for Wikimania 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya I looked into the Swahili language. I can greet people, say “thank you”, and can say who I am and where I’m from, but that’s about it.
Swahili is a part of the Bantu language family that – through a series of migrations that happened between about 6,000 and 1,500 years ago – transformed the African continent linguistically and resulted in Bantu languages being spoken in West, Central, East, and South Africa.

Of course they did. Any centralized social network works this way and has this vulnerability.
They will have to do it with your political posts too, when the US starts asking them to do it.

I’m not a big fan of Bluesky. I don’t see the point and all I want is already there on the Fediverse/Mastodon. But many people enjoy Bluesky. Some of those are really good and smart people. I agree with a lot of the points that Cory Doctorow makes in this piece.

I’m not a big fan of Bluesky. I don’t see the point and all I want is already there on the Fediverse/Mastodon. But many people enjoy Bluesky. Some of those are really good and smart people. I agree with a lot of the points that Cory Doctorow makes in this piece.
