New fiction up on Hazlitt

It’s about travelling sideshow mummies, decades long feuds, weird toy conventions, and the haunted 79 year history of an American pop culture icon told by the dead Canadian teenager who inadvertently inspired everything.

The manner of my demise is of little interest, besides serving as our jumping off point.

Reminder to artists:

The creature who comes to you asking for a partnership with nothing on offer except "connections" is a parasite. They want something very precious, and they want it for nothing.

Never, ever let them in.

ICE unleashed tear gas on the street in Chicago’s Logan Square today and I tried to find meaning among the fog and my own anger about, well, everything. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Instead of HATING AND KILLING the author of the other totally sick ONI Press surrealist graphic novel about flying saucers coming out this year, the two of us chose friendship and solidarity.

Here's my interview with ADAM SZYM about his phenomenal book Little Visitor & Other Abductions!

I did a long in depth interview with Kris Bertin, writer of the great Hobtown series, about my new book, what compels me about aliens, working with the unknown, and of course: day jobs.

Give it a read,
@hobtown.bsky.social asks some great questions!

"I happened upon one of those documentary shows about UFOs and abductions that seemed ubiquitous on cable television in the 90s, and it was one of the only times I can remember watching something that genuinely scared me enough to give me nightmares." www.vol1brooklyn.com/2025/09/22/i...

Listen to our latest episode!

In this interview, we chat with Michael LaPointe about navigating the pipeline between impulse and expression, breaking the genteel picture of literature, finding liberation in failure, and so much more.

Also just from past experience, when Cursed Hermit came out my local comic shop said that lining up outside 3 days in advance dressed as the Mini-Man actually did more harm than good 🤷‍♂️

Ordering it into your local comic shop is the most helpful, because it brings the book to the people who love comics and carefully curate collections for their customers. A local shop that recommends us to the discerning reader means more to us than just about anything else!

I don't think AI will either become a totally revolutionary tech or be a nothing tulip/NFT bubble. I think it will be like social media: something that everyone knows is mostly bad and stupid but gets addicted to as it degrades our quality of life, politics, and culture in a million small ways.

I reacted like it was a jump scare in a horror movie when the tooth part happened. Wild disgusting stuff. Best issue so far

Eden Mills has now pulled the AI workshop. I’m still not attending the festival this year as a participant or otherwise, but glad to see they listened to the feedback
A conversation on Al and the arts matters, and so does how we hold it. Thank you for being a part of the Eden Mills Writers' Festival community and offering your feedback.
We've decided not to move forward with the "Dear Al, Am I Talking to Myself?" workshop at this year's festival.
The intention was always to invite thoughtful dialogue about Al's impact on writing, including its problematic elements and the ethical and social tensions it creates. We recognize that the way we introduced this event missed the mark.
We're grateful for the feedback and we take it seriously. We look forward to the full lineup of conversations at EMW this year featuring 45+ Canadian writers, including our upcoming panel on Al ethics featuring author voices from literature, law, and policy.
As a volunteer-run festival dedicated to showing diverse voices and bold ideas, we're grateful to everyone who takes the time to engage, respond, and help us grow. Thank you for being part of the Eden Mills Writers' Festival community - your care, donations, volunteer support, and passion help shape what this festival can be to support Canadian writers and readers.

“Israel fears the people who tell the world about what is happening in Gaza — the war, the genocide, the famine. Anas made it a mission to tell these stories, our stories, all over the world. And people listened,” a pseudonymous Palestinian journalist who lives in the US writes for @theintercept.com
Anas al-Sharif Was My Friend. Here’s Why Israel Feared Him So Much.
I met Anas al-Sharif during an Israeli siege of a hospital. The Al Jazeera journalist grew to be my mentor — and my friend.
