Lastly thank you anyone who watched, I have a weird workflow so I was adding to our history breakdown on and off for a few months so in a way, this was a long time coming even if it was only a couple days work, but it's a history section I'm proud of
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Worth also mentioning www.silenthillmemories.net was huge for all the interviews with staff they have archived, without them all the evidence Team Silent were working on their own 5th game would have been way harder to track down (we're talking japan only mags)

Though they weren't contacted for the history section directly I wanna still thank @patrickjdoody.bsky.social not only for the time they gave to answer questions for Dead Domain's video, but for randomly finding me on here chatting about Homecoming's combat, cut content, etc
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
@domaindead.bsky.social , their excellent video "INHERITANCE: The Making of SH Homecoming" I think is a must watch if you have any SH interest and their video had some revelations & corrections I didn't know about, so specific shout out to them, please go watch their video
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Firstly shoutouts to @designerdave.bsky.social for archiving Design Docs & Assets from Homecoming's pre-production/early development and for answering my personal questions, sometimes very candid haha, you may hear me quote him in the future if I ever cover Marc Ecko's Getting Up
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Just wanna give some extra shout outs and info on the history section on this, as it wouldn't have been as good as it was if it wasn't for specific people

Ultimately it's funny to see as much as we've changed (in regards to society's view of nudity, sex, sexuality, etc) in other ways, we really haven't changed. A lot of the moral panic & hysteria from the 50s relating to Bettie's pin ups, not far removed from rhetoric still used today sadly
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
I'm actually not sure if I want to watch "The Notorious Bettie Page" biopic now, considering she wasn't consulted, actively heckled the movie as "LIES" when it was screened for her, weirdly her disapproval not mentioned much when I researchedm plus it's mostly low rated anyway
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
The last few decades of her life did seem to be a lot better, having rep to get her compensation for all the companies that had been using her image & name without permission for decades & her discovering the fandom that had long outlived her honestly quite brief modelling career
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
The doc I think takes a bit of a neutral stance, likely in respect to Bettie's religious beliefs, but one of my take aways was how much organised religion indirectly & directly made her mental health issues in later life worse, including convincing her to re-marry her 1st, near-homicidal ex-husband
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Myself didn't know much about her beyond her imagery, how her look practically invented the Goth pin-up look, didn't even know she did nude photography (and that was even a thing in the 50s). Just be prepared she had a pretty fucked up life pre-modeling and after retiring, some heavy stuff
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
I will say as an actual documentary, the editing is pretty shoddy, feels like it was made by a YTer who just started to make video docs. Swear a lot of archive footage is squished, music choices (and music volume) is really bizarre, but I think it's worth watching past that
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Before I nap
Just watched the 2012 Bettie Page documentary narrated by her, really fascinating look into the person behind the iconic image most don't know beyond said image.
Def look up Content Warnings before watching but still recommend considering her opinion of the 2006 boipic was "LIES, LIES"
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Having seen further into the game than you, I don't think it's inaccurate to say the game has Fromsoft action inspired combat, especially when you get to specific boss fights that look/play like Sekiro/Elden Ring
I think this is a case of bad aticulation, using "Soulslike" as an umbrella term
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
So I don't mean entire layout's copy and pastes, I guess it's like if Sonic levels were made up of rooms and Forces took an existing level and shuffled up the room order?
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
I'm not sure how to find this anymore, but I saw video comparisons showing chunks of Generations levels were reused all over the game with different textures, though I'm sure that includes a lot of Green Hill Zone & Chemical Plant.
The level with the two rotating horizontal gears comes to mind
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
As an outsider who saw friends play it or cover it, my understanding of the main issues was how little content the game had, considering a lot was already copy/pasted from Generations and by their accounts, not playing as good as that game did.
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
* On the more mechanic/depth side, I get the impression from fans I know this game was when the "Boost" section stuff had run dry for most, like a lot of comments here mention those sections mostly auto playing. Think Sonic fans also got tired of the Wisp stuff by this point
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
* Custom Character was shallow, you had a lot of clothes but the actual base model options were limited
* Coming from someone who's not a "Sonic Fan", I do think the story is worse than most, mainly that it tries to play it serious while feeling anything but
johnnybaghead.bsky.social
Think this is an issue of fans not atticulating well & recency bias, here's my understanding of the issues

* Short, 3-4 hours unless you're doing every single side mission
* Most levels are recycled sections from Generations levels
* Classic Sonic controlling worse than Generations

Two new pick ups. Terracon has been on my radar since it was on a @bghof.com Games From A Hat, but never heard of this SEGA Soccer Slam, not a SEGA IP that stood the test of time it seems
