Another legend tells of the first Abbess of Whitby, Lady Hilda, who is said to appear at the highest window of the ruins on dark, stormy nights.

Whitby is famously featured in Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. It depicts Count Dracula as a large dog-like creature coming ashore & running up the 199 steps to the graveyard near the abbey.
