NEW: The Republican National Committee (RNC) is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to dramatically restrict mail-in voting nationwide and asking the justices to rule that ballots arriving after Election Day — even if mailed on time under state law — should not be counted.
Republicans ask Supreme Court to block states from counting legally cast mail ballots
If the Court sides with the RNC, millions of voters who depend on mail-in voting could be disenfranchised.

¡Caretas fuera!

"Zombie citations" of work that was never written are becoming a big problem in academic publishing. After encountering one recently I tried tracking down its source. Instead I found a growing mob of mutant references gathering on Google Scholar codeactsineducation.wordpress.com/2026/01/30/t...

“Collection of Handwritten Letters from Children in Detention Center” sounds like an exhibit in the Holocaust Museum.
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

"One doctor interviewed by The Intercept at a large hospital said they have not seen an increase in HIV positivity, but attributed it to the fact that '[those at greatest risk of HIV transmission] (KPs) are in hiding' and the hospital lost all funding to hire people to go where KPs dare to live."
For the Interept, I reported from Uganda about the effects of USAID cuts on LGBTQ people, HIV prevention activists and sex workers—and tried to tell the story from the POV of these important but criminalized communities. Please read and share.

Bien que "Phi Chaidai Kha" / "ผีใช้ได้ค่ะ" / "A Useful Ghost" / "Un fantasma útil" haya llegado a España. Mal que haya llegado en Video On Demand y no estrenada en salas. En fin.

Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday.

It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

A fine example of how executives aren’t where they are because they’re competent, clever, or useful. The job exists to give mediocre rich people something to pretend to do.
OK so now the former CEO of Tumblr is running the Washington Post. Tumblr. A company whose history is a textbook case study in corporate value destruction.
