What's everyone reading this weekend? I'm shifting between 2 books, as usual - Lisette Marshall's twisty, fun romantasy The Death-Made Prince on my e-reader and @lollardfish.bsky.social & @profgabriele.com's mind-opening history book The Bright Ages in paperback. V different books but both so good!

Blessed are the frogs, for they keep making authoritarians look incredibly stupid
Three persons in inflatable frog costumes. One of them is holding a nicely painted sign with two little cartoon frogs holding hands, below the text "FROGS TOGETHER STRONG"

Charlie Kirk was a religious extremist and an advocate for mass censorship of academics he hated.

But as a political organizer and creator of opportunities for his comrades, there's much that can be learned from what he did. @matthewboedy.bsky.social discusses on the latest Theory of Change

the current "scandal" in VA politics is pushed entirely by Repubs & breathlessly reported by media, when no evidence actual Dem/swing voters care

meanwhile, Republican LG candidate has Nazi gay porn scandal & Gov candidate thinks the sun doesn't exist when it goes down

Guys people can be pro-democracy and have very bad positions

The point is the fight against authoritarianism in all its forms. The house is on fire. Put out the fire.

You actually don’t have to hand it to Donald Trump. You don’t have to give him credit for anything. He’s a horrible human being who has never known a day of suffering in his life. Nor does he care an ounce about the suffering of anybody else. Hope that helps.

What is this from? This type of thing was reported earlier and then it turned out the Trump admin was lying about it

I just wouldn't give Trump credit. That's just how I decided I would operate in Trump II. Other people differ.

Years ago I was teaching my gun history class and at the end of the quarter one of the students said that he was in the campus TPUSA chapter and they put him up to taking the class to spy on me but he felt bad about that because he loved the class and learned a lot and had a great time

I know this case is all over - & it should be - but Turning Point USA has waged a harassment campaign against faculty for more than a decade. I know of at least a half dozen other faculty, personally, who have received death threats and several of those who felt so unsafe they too left their homes

Are we great yet?

Mark Bray, a Rutgers University professor and expert on anti-fascist groups, is fleeing to Spain with his family due to death threats that stem from a campaign by Turning Point USA and other conservative groups to get him fired, falsely labeling him as an antifa member.
