Daily Caller alum wrote this
"Declaring the cowboy hat the national dress wouldn’t be about forcing the headwear onto the American people but, instead, giving them license to confidently embrace it," Timothy Nerozzi writes.
Opinion | This hat should be America’s national dress
Everyone is dressing as Americans. This calls for action.

a small thing in dark times, but I really love the way the textures of the paperback edition of The Bright Ages illustrate the shine of those mosaics, @profgabriele.com & @lollardfish.bsky.social

To a lot of people the statemrnt "Grok creates CSAM" will read as a "tech headline" they bypass.

"Grok creates child porn" is a much more visceral statement that will grab someone's attention and THEN you can explain why we don't use that term anymore.

A fair number of complaints about academia by academics are complaints about their own specific institution

(There are of course plenty of structural problems but sometimes we need to disambiguate)

Just fucking help people. If you can do something to fix a problem, and it costs you nothing (and in cases like this, *actually helps you too*), just do it, for god's sake.

Sometimes it doesn't matter who made the problem, what matters is who's in a position to sort it.

this was absolutely going on at Virginia Tech as well
Exclusive: Texts messages offer an unfiltered account of University of Virginia board members speaking about ending “chemical and surgical mutilation” for transgender youth at its hospitals and undoing “regimes of racial classification” in its classrooms.
‘This is war’: In texts, U-Va. board members plot with Youngkin, decry DEI
Private messages between University of Virginia board members and other officials show how they deliberated on key issues and Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s involvement in university operations.

this is good whaling content
In a new study, researchers from @uab.cat claim people have been whaling for almost 5,000 years – and that the earliest evidence comes from the warm coastal waters of Brazil, not the Arctic. www.science.org/content/arti... @science.org
World’s oldest whale harpoons discovered in Brazil
Far from the icy Arctic, ancient South Americans hunted whales using whalebone tools

I’m not linking but I just read a columnist (one of my favorites) say Trump “has no ideology beyond his own power.”

Ten years in, this trope should die. Trump's ideology is white supremacist and that goes a long way in explaining his imperialism and protectionism.

After federal troops forced a fugitive slave named Anthony Burns back into slavery in the 1850s, one Bostonian wrote, “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.” The abuse of power radicalizes people. We are seeing that now.

Classic Democratic no-win. All of them voted against the OBAA, which supercharged ICE funding and hiring. But they won't say they'd "abolish ICE" so they'll get yelled at (mostly by people who'll vote for them in the midterms after threatening not to).
