i talked about this on stream recently. it really rubs me the wrong way when i see “safe space” and “no politics” in a streamers bio. you cannot be a safe space if you don’t discuss issues that are happening around the world that are likely impacting ppl in your community. silence speaks volumes!!
Avoiding politics doesn't make your space a "safe space". In fact it makes it the opposite.
If you don't ever speak up for people or about clear issues going on, many groups of people will be cautious of your space

The thing is it comes from regular Black people noticing how fucked up things are not necessarily people who think of themselves as activists, it's just part of the dialect, & the reason you shouldn't use it if you're not Black is that you make it mean something else.
i will stop saying woke. i knew it came from black activists, but i did not realize me using it was causally connected to racists using it. i'll say "progressive" from now on
