Being an ally creates the risk of you losing your white privilege. And if you can't handle a bit of discomfort? Well... think what that says is pretty clear.

I'm Black and trans, being uncomfortable going out is a daily for me.

You'll have to realize some of us are kinda pissed, and that tone policing and wanting to be spoon-fed are shitty. I touched on this a while back about how some people get mad at Black people for pointing out how we've been yelling about the warning signs for decades.-

Y'know... actually listening to us.

More people need to understand that to be an actual good ally? You'll have to get rid of a lot of that comfort of yours. You'll have to recognize privilege, the realization that perhaps you haven't been as good as a person as you thought.-

And a thing people need to realize if they want to be a good ally is that it can't just be all about THEM. That desire to center one's self, that feeling that you may understand more about our struggles when you don't go through them yourself? That's not a good ally. To be a good reality requires-

Well... tough luck. That's on you to prove. The white people who I trust don't just go around talking about how good of an ally they are, it's something shown through actions. Re-examining privilege, calling other white people out themselves instead if just leaving the job up to us-

Their own whiteness. Cause that's the thing. It's easy to be a "performative" ally. YOU can view yourself as an ally. But it's not a title you can claim as a white person... it's is to US to decide if you're an ally or not. And if you call yourself that and one of us doesn't believe you?-
