one unattractive trait I've seen in nerd culture is a tendency to tell anecdotes where the pay off involves showcasing how ignorant most people are about something the speaker knows well. "here's the stupid question or comment I always hear." it betrays a lack of empathetic imagination.

The CDC has turned off its vaccine search tool.

The vaccines.gov site now gives an error when you enter a valid zip code.

They also removed text saying “Vaccines can help you stay healthy” and added a banner saying the site is being updated.

I think the left needs to start coming up with its own online seminars and courses that anyone can join. If Jordan Peterson and Richard Spencer have them, so should we. We can't rely on the academy anymore.

we're not even in the cool cyberpunk world. nobody's addicted to a VR program they can only purchase in a back alley. instead we have fake AI and platforms that people use to abuse others.

If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

there are two kinds of Great Books lists:

(1) "you need to read 28 books by Aristotle including 'On the Gait of Animals' and maybe 7 books published after 1700"

(2) "start with the classics: the Divine Comedy, Harry Potter, The Da Vinci Code"

Folks, if your library doesn’t have a book you want to read, ask them to buy a copy. Most have a convenient form and will let you know when it comes in. If your library offers ILL, they can even borrow books from other libraries.
