It's astonishing -- almost every single sentence uttered by Mettler in this pod made me want to scream. This is every bit of reheated reactionary-centrist conventional wisdom, distilled to its essence, delivered under the guise of "political science." So utterly, disastrously wrong, all of it.

as always it's very telling who gets to be a kid just making mistakes (25-35 year old Republican operatives praising Hitler) and who is a full fledged adult who must face the lifelong consequences of their decisions (Black teenagers, college students protesting genocide)
They are dumb af tbh… or pretend to be dumb af… in which case, they are idiots af
When I see bigger, I think it means bigger

That's because I understand words like important, impactful, or consequential

Without more information, I assume the speaker would have used one of those other words if that was actually what they meant

Oh, by the way, I wrote in @thenation.com about how Trump is condeming millions of Americans to hunger this Thanksigiving with his accelarated timeline of adding work requirements for SNAP benefits.
I also discussed how work requirements provably don't work, for the neoliberals in your life.
Trump Has Just Condemned More Americans to Hunger
The administration’s decision to fast-track a bunch of changes to food stamps—including new work requirements—is as stupid as it is cruel.

Oh! Oh! Are we calling people "illegitimate" if they've been convicted by a court of law??
UN Ambassador Mike Waltz claims Maduro is an "illegitimate leader," citing the fact he was "convicted in the Southern District of New York."

many conversations I have had with complete normie libs, the kind who have a tote bag from donating to NPR and shop at Whole Foods, involve the kind of rhetoric that under no circumstances should be put on the internet

people are very mad
look i was recently talking to a septuagenarian life long dem (who shall remain nameless) and generic lib, and she was like “i just think there should be firing squads and they should sell tickets.”
Well, that’s funny…

massive protests coupled with Trump's plummeting approval were absolutely *not predictable.* you can tell because many pundits insisted the resistance was dead, and still don't seriously grapple with Trump's unpopularity! 1
There is a bias among pundits to eye-roll and dismiss Dem opposition to Trump (such as the No Kings protests) as predictable. But in terms of raw numbers (both events and participants), what we're seeing is much bigger than e.g. the Tea Party movement was. Dems are a high entropy system right now

The networks took the much smaller Tea Party movement so seriously they broadcast a Tea Party rebuttal to Obama’s 2011 SOTU on top of the normal GOP one.
Reminder: We spent YEARS reading thousands and thousands of articles on the Tea Party and how it was a true expression of the American people's will, and it never mounted anything nearly as big as Saturday's No Kings rallies. [1/3]

every smug internet communist tweet about showing up to a No Kings protest with an abolish ICE shirt to scare the libs is getting completely mogged by the real-life winemoms showing up with slogans like "ICE will melt in hell"
Im sure Jake Tapper ls going to endlessly talk about Trumps mind the way he did with Bidens even when Trumps dictatorial plans were being explicitly talked about in the campaign. Of course he is going to!!!
Remember how Trump reposted that AI thing about magic beds that cure all sickness and how you need to get a special card for the magic bed
