Nonsense from Express (repeated by BBC)🙄.
#Facts:
Personal tax threshold (if frozen) will stay at £12570.
Anyone whose income (pension(s) etc) is under that won't pay tax.
Any earnings over £12570 taxed at 20%.
If pensions rise at 5% next 2yrs, extra tax ~20% of £700 x 2 (ie £140 & £140) *maximum*

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

FINLAND IS NOT RE-GAUGING ITS RAILWAYS

Just because an urbanist influencer has posted a 6 months old piece (that was anyway inaccurate) about it does not mean it is happening!

Finland *might* lay some additional standard gauge track from Sweden to Oulu

Damp and chilly today...went down town for covid jab. Very nice chatty male pharmacist. Did some browsing just to marvel at the ease with which I can glaze over in front of displays of hundreds of makeup items, toiletry aisles and racks of creams extolling their special virtues, at a price.

I’d have thought nothing cuts more against our precious British values than selling out your country for Russian bribes…

And yet Reform, the right‑wing press, and all those self‑styled guardians of these values have nothing to say

…funny that.

Gambling ruins lives, causes poverty, bankruptcy, suicide, crime, & domestic abuse.
There is a very simple solution.
Ban gambling advertising & sponsorship, same as we did for smoking. Tax them £2billion instead.

Haven't actually counted how many OS maps I have but I reckon I've actually used about 60% of them...some were bought in preparation for taking holidays in an area I'd not really been to before, ie Bristol/Cotswolds. Taken the train and had lifts around area but not had real hols there. Next yr?

Good article...so rare to read anything picking apart what's happening in the HoL after May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak stuffed it full of Tories in quick succession over a short time period, ensuring any gov other than RW wouldn't get legislation through. Press #fail though too, not to report on this.

I feel lucky that I don't like chocolate. An incident in the playground at Primary School where I nearly choked to death eating it well and truly showed the power of Pavlovian aversion. I can eat a bit on say a chocolate biscuit, or in cake or the odd tiny bite, but the feeling of choking remains.

Of all the hundreds and hundreds who've blocked me on here, there are still only 3 whom I'd ever interacted with. One local woman, a LW political activist, one author and one actor. I may have been muted by lots but listifications don't tell you that.

After postponing my visit Friday I went over as planned to see my best friend today. She wasn't in...she was round at her daughter's with the great granddaughter again. Still, it was very nice chatting to her son for a while and having a laugh about all sorts. I'd kind of forgotten how nice he is.

The people who complain about migration are probably a mixture of people but they all seem to think it doesn’t matter if the country works even less well. We don’t have enough public discussion about why Brits can’t or don’t do the shortage occupation jobs. The complainers need to hear it.
