Fabulous! Congratulations and good luck on the next steps!
Did you catch that look he made before the camera broke for commercial???
I'm hearing more-n-more about less-n-less reading for enjoyment. The push in public schools to excel on testing is real. :( It's getting harder and harder for educators to fight for quality independent reading time in our classrooms--despite all the evidence supporting it. #teachingwoes #kidlitchat
I'm chatting a lot w/older readers again (Hosting our school's book/writing clubs) and hearing more "apathetic" reading-related tales than before. There definitely is a lull in #MG -- the books and kids and those who love them both--need big hugs! (And more impowering/uplifting stories!) #kidlitchat
Super exciting! What a great success story!

Browsing #kidlitchat posts helps me discover #kidlit people interested in interacting/engaging rather than just broadcasting.

Also fun to see what events people are excited about, like #skypitch tomorrow (see @skypitch.bsky.social) & mthly #KidLitArt chat this Thu (see @kidlitart.bsky.social).
As a network rep for SCBWI-IL, one of my jobs is to share "news" + links w/fellow Illinois writers. Often, I have pointed to topics, trends and issues we've discussed. Having the thread histories to look back on is a huge plus in my book! (But I do miss the transcripts of yester-years.) #kidlitchat
I agree & love this, @bevtwomey.bsky.social It's about being present and being there for one another, but also knowing that as part of this "community" we can be absent and pick up the next time without feeling we've missed something or are left out, etc. A solid friendship, indeed! #kidlitchat

I'm surprised how early it's dark already. I typically wind down w/the sun and have been finding myself reading in bed again. While it IS cozy & comfy, a true "cozy" read must have those special elements that really hook me as a reader, making me feel immersed in the world &/or words. #kidlitchat
@bevtwomey.bsky.social Congratulations on your new book release! I pre-ordered a copy and it arrived today... I have it scheduled "up next"-- maybe my next COZY read? LOL! #kidlitchat
For me, a cozy read is definitely not one of those light, romantic books with all the "warm, happy feelings". I've always disliked that term for that genre. Cozy-reading- for me means wrapped up in a blanket, with a cup of coffee, and a book I don't want to put down! #kidlitchat
It would be a mistake not to mention all the female MCs that I admire: Laura (Ingalls)--for her darn goodness, Mary Lennox, Alice of WW and Anne of GG--inquisitiveness, Nancy Drew--tenacity/intelligence, Matilda--spirit, and Karana (Island of the Blue Dolphins)--strength and endurance. #kidlitchat
Oh, they are all truly wonderful! (Such rich world building!) Enjoy...
And dusting for prints....HA! I lost count how many times we tried to "pick up" the prints from a sidewalk. #kidlitchat
Oh YES!!! When I met Brian Jacques for the first time, I think I wanted to cry. I truly love all those books and just talking about them tonight makes me want to toss my current book aside and reread a few. #kidlitchat
He is the BEST in that book! I didn't think the movie was bad, per se, but I wish it could have been MORE... ;) #kidlitchat
LOVE!!! that book! (Actually both of these.) I would love to teach with Mrs. Frisby again. (I retire in a few years; I probably should before I regret not teaching/reading it with students.) #kidlitchat
Growing up in the 70s/80s I pretended to be characters from the books I read often. I remember going around with a friend, following the steps we thought Nancy Drew would take, to solve a local break in at the Catholic church nearby my friend's house. LOL! #kidlitchat
Honestly, for me it's usually the animal characters that stay with me longest. Winn Dixie, Charlotte, Pax, Despereaux...I'm a huge fan of Martin and the other "good" animals from the Redwall series. I (esp.) like rodent characters. I guess I love seeing the world from that perspective. #kidlitchat
TOPIC: Inquiring minds want to know: who is your all-time favorite picture book, middle grade or YA character--either from your own childhood, or one who particularly resonates with you now? Bonus points for WHY! #kidlitchat

Artists! Looking for a fun October challenge? Use the hashtag #scbwiArtober2024 when you post your prompt-inspired art! I've modified the prompt graphic 😜 to include Bluesky (I checked with SCBWI to make sure it's ok). www.scbwi.org/posts/scbwi-...

I know I've been MIA but I had a "grand" time w/family in July!

AND I have been revising/writing & drawing/creating-Daily! Trying to keep to those goals I set earlier this summer. It's so satisfying to reach goals w/small steps.

This is a recent illo I created w/the prompt #gymnastics #SimoneBiles

When I first started illustrating books I wondered if the 'page turn' was really important (spoiler: it is!) & how to get the viewer to see the image the way I wanted them to.
