Wish I could! Actually, the dream is to be *in* the show. And then visit.
Hey #kidlt, if you visit the show in the next month or so before it comes down (and you should if you’re in NYC and love picture books) be sure to use the official Original Art Show hashtag (below) to help give the show, and the work, more visibility here on Bluesky.

Sounds like fun! #kidlitart

Goodnight, all--I agree with @vbartles.com: it's fascinating to see how we each map out different paths. So many ways to get there. See you next time! #kidlitchat

Just my humble opinion, but I think all picture books need to be somewhat circular--otherwise they are more short story than pb. Anyone else agree? #kidlitchat
November 19, 2025 at 2:14 AM
For picture books, we can add Rule of Three, Day Cycle, and Circular structure. I tend to like There and Back Again. #kidlitchat

TOPIC: How do you come up with your story's structure? Are you a Save the Cat person? A hero's journey lover? Do you follow a natural rhythm, have another template or not even think about it? Discuss away! #kidlitchat

Everybody ready? Got your snacks/desert/beverage of choice? Good! Because it's almost time for #kidlitchat. 9E/6P ON THE DOT. We'll be expecting you!

Easy to implement #writing craft edits that will immediately improve your WIP (from a pro #betareader):

1. Know your "glitter" words. Everyone has words they overuse in their prose (and they get literally everywhere). CTRL+F your glitter words and cut them where possible. (1/7)

They must have heard us talking at #kidlitchat this week! This landed in my inbox today--a Personal Retreat is what used to be called an Unworkshop. Whatever you call it, it's an *awesome* experience for yourself or a small group. Highly recommend.

Good grief--you can tell I need to call it a night. So many typos! Goodnight, everyone. :-)

Goodnight, all--even you Ghost Bears out there. It's been another fun hour--thank you for being here! See you next time. #kidlitchat

I haven't done any in-person events since before The Plague--but since I've retired from SCBWI, I don't know what I'd do at one anyone, lol. I have to have a job to hide behind. :-/ #kidlitchat

TOPIC: What workshops/conferences/challenges are capturing your attention now, as the year winds down? In-person or online? If you were a NaNo participant, have you found a replacement? #kidlitchat
November 12, 2025 at 2:00 AM
Whatever else is happening in the world, you can count on a good solid hour of #kidlitchat every Tuesday--and that's tonight! See you in about 5 minutes! (9E/6P)

This is a great addition to the discussion on queries at #kidlitchat
last month.
Many thanks to @cherylklein.bsky.social for sharing!
For querying writers: I did a critiques today for an SCBWI conf & got questions about what kind of books you can cite as comps, & I think it’s worth distinguishing between *pitching* comps and *selling* comps. A brief 🧵:

I am REALLY feeling the time change tonight, but, as always, Tuesday nights are worth the effort! Thank you all for hanging out with us. See you next time. #kidlitchat

I don't think you should write to trends--but knowing what the current trends are helps you focus your pitch. What we create can be packaged so many different ways. #kidlitchat
November 5, 2025 at 2:11 AM
There are a couple of business trends I've run across lately: looking for series potential, and cross-pollinating (as in a pb with a bb tie-in). #kidlitchat
November 5, 2025 at 2:09 AM
If you're interested in kidlit business trends, keep an eye out for workshops led by @hunderdown.bsky.social , and follow Harold's website for the latest. #kidlitchat

TOPIC: We just had a time change and, as always, times are changing, too. Do you keep an eye on trends? How do they inform how you work? And what trends are you noticing in the kidbook biz these days? #kidlitchat

Almost time for #kidlitchat! See you in just a few (9E/6P).

Time to go grab a couple of Reese's minis from the fridge. Have a safe and fun and CREATIVE Halloween, everyone! See you in November. #kidlitchat
October 29, 2025 at 2:08 AM
I do love Reese's--I have some in the fridge right now. But (I apologize in advance to those of you who have strong feelings about this) I am also a Candy Corn fan. #kidlitchat
October 29, 2025 at 1:19 AM
TOPIC: It's almost Halloween which has us thinking about a lot of things, including... what makes a great Halloween (or any holiday tie-in) book? What #kidlit characters do you see becoming classic costume choices? And why are Reese's cups the best Halloween candy? #kidlitchat
