A very old Soviet joke, from an especially dark time:

Foxes are fleeing the USSR in droves.
Q: Why are you running away?
Fox: The Soviets passed a new law that they’re going to arrest all camels.
Q: But you’re foxes!
Fox: Yeah, why don’t *you* try proving to the NKVD that you’re not a camel.
If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

"Aspirational Urbanism and the Recodification of Defiance" is a project about the cruelty of hope, about recognizing aesthetic possibilities in the face of inevitability, about Hong Kong and Taipei, and about urban theorizations at the very small scale. Thrilled about this SNSF Starting Grant.

A v good overview of the state of Germany rn by @hahauenstein.bsky.social .

Racism, islamophobia, and anti-Semitism all on the rise, backed by German gvt.

Stand-out quote by Ben Mauk:
“It seems hard to get institutions and politicians in Germany to recognise that Palestinians are human beings.”
Why Is Germany Cracking Down on Pro-Palestine Protest?

A climate of fear and division has been stoked by the government’s increasingly hard-line stance against migrants and dissent.
