Not angry, just disappointed.
Community sector, feminism, nature, media, politics, social media lurker from way-back. Getting a bigger tent. Views my own.
Government by platitude rolls on. If it were easy to close gaps and be effective in local government delivery, health, education etc then it would be done by now! Governing is hard and requires actual work. #nzpol

Collateral purpose of reform of regional councils?

Bishop “said he expected the changes would put "downward pressure" on rates” is one of the funniest quotes from the announcement about regional councils. That’s like expecting an empty fridge to put “downward pressure” on hunger #nzpol

A better analogy to calculators, a more accurate one, would be if calculators didn't actually calculate.

A calculator with number inputs only and a button you press to receive an answer, no operations.

Enter some numbers, get an answer. Maybe it's the same each time, maybe not.

The female crash test dummy has been a long time coming — but she isn't here yet

I think OIA requests on the ‘new curriculum’ might be revealing regarding both sources and reception in the Ministry. We seem well past ‘a few issues to iron out’. #nzpol

Anne Salmond: Who is this Government working for?
On a range of environmental and legal measures involving forestry, the coalition Government seems to be doing the opposite of what people and communities need, writes Dame Anne Salmond

I can only assume the reference to ‘Form 2’ etc on Morning Report this morning was for me and my demo - the education system changed 30 years ago! Will it be shillings next? ounces and inches? Please stop #RNZ

What is ‘at a Kainga Ora property’ relevant to the Police shooting story? Kainga Ora is a landlord- not normally identified in crime stories. (This is a rhetorical question).

I really would resist "number of submissions" as a proxy for whether a piece of legislation is good or not. Subs processes just aren't opinion polls, & buying into the logic when numbers are on your side means you're bound by it when they're not. Creates a ratchet of escalating crude discourse imo.

If you're still working on your submission about the Regulatory Standards Bill, I strongly recommend this short piece jointly written by Jonathan Boston, Michael Baker, Andrew Geddis, Carwyn Jones, and Geoffrey Palmer.

Asked giant child (16) if he ate yesterday’s school lunch. “No, it was yucky - chicken and rice”. Visitor at our house: “oh, chicken and rice is great!”. Giant (unfussy) child replied calmly but emphatically: “it was not good food”.

The media can choose to focus on the actual issue (pay equity) and not be distracted, rather than report breathlessly on the distraction. ‘Winston Peters was shocked by the c-word in the House’ - ok, thanks, good to know. #nzpol
