Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

✅ Hawaii is a great new location
✅ Side content is engaging
✅ Refined turn-based combat system
✅ Really special Kiryu content for longtime Yakuza fans

❌ Storytelling is very sloppy
❌ Some significant pacing issues

I was a bit mixed early on in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, but I’ve been loving it more as it goes.

The Kiryu content is especially great as someone who has played the entire series.

Overall, it feels a bit bloated and pacing can be all over the place. But it hits hard in a lot of areas too.

Giving Fable an “Autumn 2026” release window is interesting.

I assume it’s tentative and depends a lot on whatever GTA VI ends up doing.

Fable looks incredible.

And on PlayStation day one.

Can’t wait.

Extremely sad and bothersome.

It’s been expected for a while once Ubisoft split their gaming divisions up a while back. Anything that isn’t Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, or Rainbow 6 is in danger and every employee not in those sections should be worried about their job.

The college team I’ve been a fan of since birth. Always an embarrassment in football.

They just won the College Football National Championship.

Go Fucking Hoosiers.

I’m typically not a big fan of roguelikes. I often find them to be repetitive and dissatisfying.

Spelunky breaks that for me with its emergent gameplay and sense of progression. Nearly every run feels like it has a different story.

Best roguelike I’ve ever played. Although the pool is small.
Spelunky

✅ Tight, precise controls
✅ Extremely difficult, but almost always fair
✅ Emergent gameplay keeps runs from feeling too samey
✅ Satisfying progression of your own ability

❌ Could use a larger variety of items
❌ Not a ton of in-game motivation for exploring secret routes

It’ll be interesting to see if this trend continues.

Switch 2 had the biggest console launch *ever*. But that’s mostly from the Nintendo loyal base and bigger gaming enthusiasts. Now that those people have the console, idk if more casual consumers will find much worth in it yet.
Switch 2 sales slowed over Christmas compared to Switch 1 in many Western markets, including the US and UK.

A 'senior Nintendo employee' attributed the dip to a “complicated economic landscape”, higher prices, and “the absence of a major Western game”.

Fez

✅ Beautiful pixel art presentation
✅ Some truly ingenious puzzle design
✅ Shifting perspectives stays consistently mesmerizing

❌ Some of the deeper puzzles are too complex or gimmicky
❌ Backtracking can get confusing

Trying to find more indie games that give you an incredible sense of discovery. Games like Tunic, Blue Prince, Animal Well, Outer Wilds, etc.

But having a hard time finding more than just the same 5 or so games. Is the pool of games like this really that small? 😭

My main annoyance with this is that we’ve known about Expedition 33’s use of Gen-AI for placeholders and whatnot for months. Sandfall has always been open about it.

The Indie Game Awards knew too. They’re only reacting now because of the current Larian AI debacle and conversation.
The IGAs Nomination Committee is officially retracting Debut Game and Game of the Year, awarding both categories to new recipients. Additionally, we are retracting one of the Indie Vanguard recipients.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe

✅ Intuitive environmental level design
✅ New Pikmin variations are great
✅ Creatively charming all-around
✅ QoL additions polish the formula

❌ Stockpiling juice becomes trivial quickly
❌ Collectibles aren’t as fun as in prior Pikmin games
❌ Final mission is a bit annoying

Arc Raiders

✅ Proximity chat encounters are consistently unpredictable
✅ Arc AI is impressive
✅ Audio design is top notch
✅ Gorgeous, well-designed maps

❌ Gameplay loop isn’t satisfying enough
❌ Lacking meaningful sense of progression
❌ Inventory management between runs gets very tedious
