I've been asked before by newer/younger artists about how to get popular or meet other artists.

My answer is "please do not make popularity your focus when creating art." It's going to leave you frustrated and feeling empty when you create artwork. It'll suck the fun out of it.

A pic of 2 Miocene (~15 million y.o.) fossils I've been prepping by hand with hand tools like dental picks and paint brushes. Without an air scribe its a slooow process, but its a labor of love! Left: a 1 inch thick, 5 inch diameter table-coaster sized circular disk of bone I've been working on prepping. The external bone has a yellowish orange light brown color w/a cream color inside structure. It has a piece missing from the middle & is rough around the edges. The top is clean but the bottom needs more work. It came out of the ground in 5 separate pieces. I cleaned off each piece & fit them back together! This bone is called the "epiphysis"! Its the end cap of an ancient whale vertebra! Also nicknamed "the cookie" by paleontologists. Right: An unidentified piece of bone approx 4 inch long & 3 inch tall. The surface is also a yellowish brown, and is mostly flat except for a couple raised ridges. One ridge has a small pit on the lower side that would've allowed nerves and blood vessels to go through the bone. I don't know what it is, but its likely part of an ancient whale skull. A collection of fossils I collected myself out in the southern California desert hills! Including some small shark teeth & 2 two-inch larger teeth, a large lumpy ancient whale inner ear bone and a smaller smoother ancient cetacean (possibly dolphin?) ear bone, and a roughly octagonal turtle underbelly scute (one of the "scales" of the shell). Also Miocene & ~15 million years old.
