We spent months working to rebuild the Democratic brand in the eyes of young voters who wanted leaders who'd fight for them.
Senate Democrats just lit all that work on fire.

not snark, actually asking: after pushing a comma strategy that focused on health care, what is the case for the Democrats making a deal to end the shutdown now that doesn't involve a win on health care?

“Cities are good, people want to live in dense walkable neighborhoods, and urban governance should prioritize city residents’ quality of life over suburban drivers’ convenience” remains a genuinely radical political program in America.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

The factional grifters will hate this, but the Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis actually suggests the outlines of a broad, emerging Dem coalition organized around both anti-Trump *and* affordability politics, not a party bitterly divided against itself.
These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Trump: "TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, NOT JUST FOR THE SHUTDOWN, BUT FOR EVERYTHING ELSE. WE WILL GET ALL OF OUR COMMON SENSE POLICIES APPROVED (VOTER ID, ANYONE?) AND MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! REMEMBER, THE DEMOCRATS WILL DO IT IMMEDIATELY, AS SOON AS THEY GET THE CHANCE."

Do you use Spotify Premium? Cancel your subscription until Spotify stops running ICE ads. There are other streaming options that don’t profit from exploiting artists while recruiting for ICE: indivisible.org/cancel-spoti... #CancelSpotify

I 100% unironically can and do frequently state that being a public transit commuter re-shaped my politics for the better.
i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”

I don’t think people realize what this feels like for DC. They are mad for the nation, which is so valid. But like, imagine if they just like tore down part of the Empire State Building or something, or like painted the Golden Gate Bridge a different color.

I think it’s a little odd to be more open — whether as pure “resistance” or as a means of fighting “oligarchy” — to candidates with Nazi tattoos than to candidates like Jared Golden who take moderate stances on public policy issues.

Democrats should be drawing up legislation right now, this very minute, to bar Trump from helping himself to $230 million in taxpayer funds from DOJ. Challenge Republicans to hold a vote on it. Push this so hard in the media that every GOP Senate and House candidate is pressed to comment on it.

Honestly, surprised by this finding. Would be curious to know more about the wording of the question. 58% FOR compromise… on what? Need much clearer messaging from Dem leadership on why compromise is a bad idea.

Ezra: How do we build a coalition that can consistently win power and protect the most vulnerable when so many people don’t see the vulnerable as human let alone worthy of protection?

Just such an important conversation, and one I think has been quite mischaracterized. This is not two theories of the case, this is two people with heartbreak and longing looking for a way forward. Would love to have a Shoulder Ezra and Shoulder Ta-Nehisi push/pulling me in the right direction.

At this point, it’s not Trump, Miller, et al., doing the real work of autocratic consolidation. They’re just being handed it by the Supreme Court.
