Excited to announce I recently highlighted another preprint for @prelights.bsky.social. In this preprint, @r-pantier.bsky.social and co-authors from the Chambers Lab at the University of Edinburgh find that the TET proteins act together to help mammalian cells specify into somatic lineages.
TET knockout cells transit between pluripotent states and exhibit precocious germline entry - preLights
Genetic gatekeepers of gametogenesis? TET proteins jointly jam germline specification, synergistically steering cells towards somatic fates.

Excited to announce that a new protocol to test potential PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors was recently published by my former lab at URI. I’m happy to have contributed to this method to determine drug candidates’ ability to block this pathway, commonly exploited by cancer cells to hide from the immune system.
Identifying PD-1/PD-L1 Inhibitors with Surface Plasmon Resonance Technology
University of Rhode Island. This protocol describes a blockade assay for PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors using surface plasmon resonance technology. It employs a dual-step immobilization strategy and a tailore...

A new call to revise the limit to culture human embryos, currently not allowed beyond 14 days (start of gastrulation) to 28 days www.nature.com/articles/d41....
There is no new argument here to add to earlier calls but, as often in this argument, certain caveats are glossed over….. . 🧵
Human embryo research: how to move towards a 28-day limit
The decades-old limit on how long human embryos can be grown in culture is under debate. A new road map outlines how to extend the length of culture responsibly.

In a follow-up to our recent coverage of the NIH, our latest piece talks about the NSF’s role in funding basic science in the U.S. and how that role is being threatened by restructuring, budget cuts, and cuts to training programs and fellowships like REUs and the GRFP. Read about it here: 🧪 #scicomm

The NIH isn’t the only federal agency that funds U.S. science, and it isn’t the only agency imperiled by political interference, either. Read our latest on the National Science Foundation and what we stand to lose if cuts to funding and training programs continue: open.substack.com/pub/isabella...
What It Would Mean To Lose The National Science Foundation
In a companion piece to our previous article on the NIH, we discuss the importance of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and how the agency is currently being affected by political interference.

A great highlight of some really important research. It reminds me of another article I read a few months ago from @ascbiology.bsky.social about how open you should be with your identity when applying to academic jobs (www.ascb.org/diversity-eq...). All three works are definitely worth reading.

In this very cool 1-2 punch from the Weinstein lab, start by reading Miranda & co’s awesome pre-print about a novel epigenetic reporter and follow it up with @jimmykjm.bsky.social’s pre-print using it to characterize epigenetic reprogramming during fin regeneration: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
