And with all that going on, not one player, not one member of staff, has mentioned the other major disruption to hit the entire squad.
They have just dealt with it with staggering dignity, even when clearly struggling with the emotions of it all.

So maybe, maybe, Slot hasn't "gone back to what he knew". Maybe he always knew what he wanted he just had to wait til everyone was up to speed. Which took longer than planned.
And he knew that was the case too. Because contrary to some opinions he's not an idiot.

And while all that was going on, the guy bought to actually score goals - the guy who knows this league and should be quicker at the whole adapting thing - had been jogging round a field for three months and wasn't quite ready to actually play football like we play football.

While all that was going on, the guy behind them booked his annual two months off, meaning our central defensive stalwarts were suddenly surrounded by new faces in new positions, with a new and interesting midfield in front of them.

Which, ya know, was a problem.

Meanwhile, bedding in the other new fullback had to be fast-tracked because the old guy - having decided Spain wasn't for him - had to overcome a few niggles and get up to speed so he could play three games a week.
This meant that often our two CBs were playing with unfamiliar FBs.

So that's two of the three in the wrong place. The obvious candidate to step in has grown into a great young footballer, but is still working on being able to go a month without a visit to the treatment room.
So guess what, the new guy living in a new country playing in a new league has to start

You can't play that midfield when one of them has been injured since April, missed pre-season and had to be drip-fed in to avoid breaking him further.

You can't play that midfield with two broken right backs because you need to move one of them across to cover.
This creates a gap in midfield.
