Something I want to make clear is that in America, political power rests in the people and is delegated from there, and that’s why what’s happening in Minnesota is so effective. Because it’s not expecting Congress or the courts or …some savior?… to save us, but remembering that we must save us.

It is certainly not an ideal outcome, but it’s good to see Congress exercising the power of the purse. A government that violates human rights enumerated in the Constitution should not be funded.
The United States federal government has partially shutdown.

Editorial: Escalating violence by U.S. law enforcement during deportation campaigns, including the killing of civilians, has shaken domestic trust and deeply damaged international confidence in the United States.
We must hold America to a much higher standard
The images of mayhem and violence that have been transmitted around the world have alienated many others who once looked to the U.S. as a model of democracy.

It’s the official government line that the man ICE murdered in Minneapolis “approached USBP officers with a 9mm handgun,” prompting “defensive shots.” That is a provable lie. I agree, however—he was aiming a weapon at ICE. That weapon was an operational cell-phone camera, and they ended him for it.

Trump would never protect the country against any kind of ice.
Good thing Trump has done so much to reinforce FEMA and prepare for this storm that is about to affect 180 million Americans.

It's not too late for the news media to get their heads out of their asses and warn the not-paying-attention crowd that a dictatorship is descending.
And to use the word "dictatorship," which is what it is.
It's not too late for the media to do this, but almost.

ICE doesn’t follow the law. I don’t understand how more law is going to solve the problem.

This is beyond begging the child to behave, it’s time for a timeout or something. In political terms, articles of impeachment maybe?

ICE is enabled and emboldened by the administration.
Minibus is out. Democrats were able to include some guardrails in about ICE:
-restricts ICE to spending $3.8 billion of its annual budget
on detention as opposed to being able to spend $10 billion
-$20 million that must be used for body cameras 1/

I want to live in a country where things are sane enough so that dog poop becomes newsworthy.
A city in Fukushima Prefecture has started highlighting dog owners who leave their pets’ droppings behind by drawing a yellow circle around the feces.

If anybody thinks this ICE/CBP violence has suddenly arisen, I'll note that returning from vacation, I have _never_ had a pleasant re-entry into the US, even as a birthright US citizen.

Well, except reentering the US from Nogales, Mexico. I and my friend are white, so...

Change has never been easy. It takes persistence and determination, and requires all of us to speak out and stand up for what we believe in. As we honor Dr. King today, let’s draw strength from his example, and do our part to build on his legacy.

Old joke attributed variously to Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union:

Every day a man walks to the newsstand, checks the front page of the paper, and leaves.

Finally, the owner asks "What are you looking for?"

"An obituary."

"Those are in the back of the paper!"

"This one won't be."

Throwing around slang terms like she has a clue or something. Or misappropriating them. Their tactic: Every slightest affront gets magnified ridiculously: Names are doxxing. Standing near an operation is interference. Curse words are insurrection.

My local police have names on their vests.
BRENNAN: Tell me about the officer, Jonathan Ross

KRISTI NOEM: Don't say his name! I mean, for heaven's sake, we shouldn't have people continue to dox law enforcement

BRENNAN: His name is public

NOEM: I know, but that doesn't mean it should continue to be said

Just venting. If I wanted the new system, I'd install it. I don't want a Microsoft choice from Apple: "Upgrade now, or I'll pester you forever."

I usually install new operating systems by this time in the cycle...when they aren't utter crap.
