This does not get mentioned nearly enough. A great talking point for scientists to raise with non-scientist loved ones at holiday gatherings! That MRI that your aunt had, or the PET scan that told your father his cancer is in remission, would not have been possible if it weren’t for basic science.
Every machine in a Hospital that diagnoses your body without cutting you open is based on a principle of Physics, discovered by a Physicist who had no interest in Medicine.

If you think the world doesn’t need Basic Science, or that somehow Science has failed you, think again.

The intersection of health and driving ability is a tricky one, especially for older adults.

Our new poll looks at this issue in people over 65, both nationally and in Michigan.

Read what we found: ihpi.umich.edu/news-events/...
Most older drivers aren’t thinking about the road ahead, poll suggests
More than 80% of people over 65 drive at least weekly, but less than half have a plan for a time when they can’t or shouldn’t drive; few have talked to a health professional about it

Oh the humanity!
“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”

WKRP In Cincinnati’s Thanksgiving episode deserved all the awards😆😆😆 Everyone rightly remembers that iconic final line. But Les covering the whole debacle and channeling the coverage of the Hindenburg tragedy cements its comedic gold status.

3 infant #pertussis deaths this year in Kentucky. "Of the three infant deaths reported over the past 12 months, all three were not vaccinated, nor were their mothers."

We first tested maternal vaccination for whooping cough over 80 years ago. It's safe & effective & might have saved these babies.

Today is an historic day at @umich.edu: the first patients will move into the new Kahn Pavilion patient tower, transferring from parts of University Hospital. I’m a Wayfinding volunteer for the morning - some of my fellow volunteers were also here for the move of patients to this hospital in 1986!

In a lot of cases, clinical trials might be the only way for a child to survive a fatal childhood disease, or keep someone from dying from a form of cancer that doesn’t have any other options, etc. We tend to think of “trials” as novel experiments, but they’re often much more than that.
