Technically Darksouls monster hunter, or E33 have patterns and strategy. Best of both world. The serpentphare I described earlier is a good example of that, you have to make a team build that allow you to regain all your AP and spend them all efficiently in one turn each time.

And it's fine, to each their own. I used to love dragon quest, but I tried so hard to play DQ11 and I was just bored. I know it's a good game, I want to play it. But every mundane battle feel like a chore. Same with FF7 remake.

I mean it's mine. I like games to ask me to be minimaxed AND still be really good on my timings. Like in darksouls.

yeah for sure, exhaust or the serpentphare that automatically drain all your AP at every turn seems annoying at first. But it can be balanced with good builds. Basically Exhaust only last one turn, you can reverse status effects. And overall I found them really fun.But it's not for everyone for sure

Oh you didn't like the gameplay? I love the endgame stuff, It was really well designed and was precise enought to keep me engaged until the final optionals bosses, and I'm saying that as a massive JRPG and Soulslike fan.

It was a really nice mix of Action and great minimaxing to me.

Bravely default were really good as far as turn based goes!

But to be fair, I see what people wanted out of squareenix, and turns out it was Expedition 33 lol.
