Funny thing, she was originally just meant to be a villain for one of my fandoms that I used to do rp in. But eventually I took her & Mathius and decided to create a whole world & story for them. That's when I had a few general plot points for the story.

The Shadowhand 💜✨

Posted this before there were any people on Bluesky, so let's bring the pretty boy Essek back once again. From 2023.

My MC for the "Light's Rebellion" series is Braelyn Hallowcloak, a young woman who just wants to know who her family is & if they're still alive. Her goals shift from book to book, but that main goal carries her through most of the series.

I think I struggle with personalities the most? Sometimes I just find it really hard to make sure each character is unique/doesn't sound or act like another character. It's a balancing act, haha.

Maybe it's basic, but I really enjoy putting together the physical traits of characters. I like being able to visual them in my head, or even finding a popular character that reminds me of them (ex. when I think of Jace, I picture Ted Mosby from HIMYM with wizard robes 😅)

It's hard to pick just one, but I'll go with the dynamics/relationships between the characters. More often than not, I'm more invested in a character who is doing something/being someone because of someone important to them.

#WeeknightWriters (yes I know I'm late)

My stories are usually built around the characters. It was definitely that way for Braelyn, as she's been living in my head since I was... about 16 or so (I'm 30 now). I had no idea what her full story was going to be until the past couple years.

Now that I think about it, "A Daughter's Hope" has several characters (not major) die within the opening chapters... 😅 a part of me regrets it because of the emotion the events bring to the main characters, but a part of me doesn't regret it, if that makes sense.

Time for another #FantasyFictionFriday question for you fantasy writers out there! 🧙‍♂️

Have you ever killed a character and regretted it? Why or why not?

I had that happen to me yesterday, except I had no warning 😬 someone hit a telephone pole down the road from me. I had to wait about an hour and a half for the power to come back on, and then the Internet didn't come back for a few hours after that. It was an annoying afternoon 😅

My mom and youngest sister are flying in today 🥺 I haven't seen them since before they moved, so I fully expect tears when fiancé and I go meet them for dinner 💙

My fiancé and I weren't planning on starting this until January at the earliest, but we're going to look at a house tomorrow 👀 we're excited but also a little anxious!

"I can still hear the falcon's cry. Do you?"

What a way to bring everyone together!! And boy does it feel kinda nostalgic to get lost in some fanart for a brand new episode...

Digital illustration by galacticjonah. The illustration shows Thjazi Fang on his death bed, covered in tributes by friends and family. Thjazi is an orc man with a greying beard and hair, dressed in a wine red shirt, lying in peaceful rest. Below the blankets covering him change into a banner that is catching flame. The banner shows a white falcon.

He's an obvious answer, but Stephen King (I think he's also the only horror author I've ever read). It's funny because I don't go out of my way to read horror, but my fiancé and I bonded over horror movies when we were teens.

#SFFChat Q3: What SFF or speculative horror author do you think does creepy scenes esp. well? Maybe there's an author who you don't read because they scared you so much, or a fantasy writer whose prose raises the hair on your arms (because it's creepy, not because it's bad, ahaha).

I do love the moments when characters are going into a place that's either abandoned or just has bad vibes. Bonus points if there's a specific legend around the place that warns people to "KEEP OUT!"

I think fear is crucial to any story. The fear of the characters usually helps drive the story forward in addition to their actions and their relationships. And it can be a fear of anything, from something small to something world-breaking.

#SFFChat Q1: What role does horror play in SFF? (or replace "horror" with fear, spookiness, or another similar thing!)
