Oxford City Cllr for Marston. Loves growing stuff - including young people, trees, food, book-lovers and communities. It's dirty work, but worth the mess & mud. Views are my own.

Word of the day is ‘swullocking’, from 19th-century East Anglian dialect: sultry, sweltering, and sudiferous (sweat-inducing).

Just love this Oxford charity shop tale. 💚📚

Twelve rare books donated to the Oxfam shop in Headington have raised £13,000 at auction. Volunteer Nina Curtis identified the collection of books by philosopher Sir Karl Popper, which included signed copies presented to other academics.
Books White hardback, Realism and the aim of science, with an inscription White hardback - the logic of scientific discovery, with inscription.

I'm supporting the Oxford Campaign led by @acornunion.bsky.social to stop bad landlords. There are 100s of bad landlords in Oxford and only 18 improvement notices were handed out last year by Oxford City Council. This needs to improve. @sheltercharity.bsky.social

Big news for me! I've just been announced as the Active Travel and Cycling Champion for Oxfordshire County Council.

As this is an Oxfordshire-wide role, I'm very keen to know more about rural routes especially.

Shout out to the Lib Dems for appointing an opposition councillor - they're serious. 💚

Labour should be tacking left a) because austerity is a morally and economically bankrupt policy and b) it's a sensible strategy for them electorally.

Tory voters are heading for Reform far far more than Labour voters are.

"The Global Majority Greens find the Prime Minister’s racist immigration speech made on Monday to be an example of a government that is deflecting from its own incompetence in managing the country’s economy."

Read our full statement in the screenshots that follow
Global Majority Greens Statement on Keir Starmer’s Immigration Speech

The Global Majority Greens find the Prime Minister’s racist immigration speech made on Monday to be an example of a government that is deflecting from its own incompetence in managing the country’s economy.

He said, “we risk becoming an island of strangers. Not a nation that walks forward together”.

It is migration that has helped make this country a success, especially after World War II.

How quickly the Government forgets…The 1948 Nationality Act gave British Citizenship to all members of the British Empire and their descendants who were invited to the UK to help rebuild the Nation, and we did.

Many of us in the Green Party are descended from people who came to the UK from India, Nigeria, Jamaica, Pakistan, St Kitts, Australia, Kenya, Malaysia, Germany, Trinidad & Tobago, Somalia (and more!). Some of us migrated here.

The Prime Minister’s statement that “we risk becoming an island of strangers, not a nation that walks forward together” is not only wrong. It is dangerous and divisive - inviting racist abuse towards those of us living here.

Libraries are some of my favourite places.
I'm in and out of the Oxfordshire Westgate library all the time.
I love their recent book displays for Veganuary and "Short books for short days".

Go and checkout their photo exhibition- it's free and closes tomorrow!
