Seeing Zohran instantly getting a bunch of shit done in like a week makes you realize that politicians could always do that on some level if they wanted it bad enough and very few of them actually do.

And there’s a federal version of this bill that you should tell your lawmakers to support.

Yup. Everything in this thread, up to and including the end. You don't eat around the cockroach.
Let’s talk about abolishing ICE.

Very few people who say “abolish ICE” mean “abandon all immigration enforcement.” Rather, they mean “the structure of immigration enforcement is irretrievably broken and needs to be reorganized, just like we did 23 years ago when we created ICE.”

another thing worth repeating about the Grok "situation"

theres an essentially infinite amount of consensually made adult content online to fit every possible preference, kink and desire

making deepfake porn of others without their consent is about twisted power and control, not being horny

One interesting thing about this is how few articles covering this mention OpenAI’s coming move to integrate ads, which merged with people’s health data, presents a wide range of predatory scenarios.
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health. Should we trust it?
The new feature helps users understand test results, get advice on diets and workouts, and prepare for doctors’ appointments.

This. Whats happening w Grok is a supply chain issue: a harmful tool made available for harmful uses.

All the talk of OSAs and yet there does not seem to be a regulatory instrument --or the will -- to actually go after Musk. This speaks more to the failure of our regulators.
Keir Starmer's spokesman tells me that X and Grok's creation of sexual deepfakes of children is "completely unacceptable" but again won't commit to taking direct action against them, or to stop posting there.

Says "all options are on the table" but suggests it's a matter for Ofcom, not Government

LLMs are not sentient, are not human. Grok cannot “apologize” or explain how or why any of this is happening. But of course major outlets such as Bari Weiss’s CBS News wrote that Grok “acknowledged ‘lapses in safeguards'." @jasonkoebler.bsky.social with more:

As both the House & Senate look to repeal Section 230, I'm curious who they think should be held liable for the comments they've left open on the Epstein photo dump...? Them? Dropbox?

Do they have a trust & safety team watching the comments?

We spent long time studying the question "does training data filtering help prevent generative models from generating unwanted content?"

TL;DR: Nope. In some cases it slightly increases difficulty but not enough to prevent even average users from finding ways to create what they want.
Our new paper demonstrates that removing images of children from training datasets of text-to-image models fails to prevent the misuse of these models to generate child sexual abuse material (AI CSAM). A thread 🧵

404 Media is making a print zine about the surveillance tactics used by ICE, and how people are resisting this tech.

Why? Print media is cool. Also, 404 Media has watched ICE grow from an already horrifying organization into a deportation force that is better funded than most militaries.

Next week the House E&C Committee is looking to run something of a shock and awe campaign, debating at least 19 bills that they say are related to "protecting kids online." Most of which are actually about censorship and control. Don't buy the framing. It's always the same damn thing.
