First up our own @docrandom.bsky.social, Csilla Ariese, and @apolitopoulos.bsky.social talk about their Past❤️Play project!

I actually do write articles (and book chapters) on games and I've never tried this. Maybe I should start... At least I do know what I'd be writing!

I had to sign a similar disclaimer to examine a graduate thesis recently. I absolutely cannot imagine agreeing to such an examination and then thinking "I know, I'll give someone else's work to an LLM to examine instead! Totally fine! They're experts too!" But apparently people do... 😵

This conference is dedicated to digital #archaeology of all kinds. So even if you don't work with medievalist games - or even #archaeogaming per se - consider submitting an abstract! We'd love to hear about your work!

We're pleased to announce we're putting together a thematic strand at the 1st Brazilian Conference on Digital Archaeology, organized by @archarise.bsky.social.

If you work with medievalist #historygames and/or #archaeogaming in any capacity, we'd love to hear from you!

The Middle Ages in Modern Games conference, the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), and the research society ARISE (Interactive Archaeology and Electronic Simulations) are pleased to announce a thematic strand at the I Brazilian Conference on Digital Archaeology.

Archaeogaming and medievalist game studies have enjoyed noteworthy popularity since the past decade. On the one hand, practitioners of medieval history and archaeology have started to devise methodologies to integrate games as research outputs and vehicles for outreach. On the other hand, game studies experts have acknowledged the importance of archaeology to deal with the material dimension of games and the human experiences within virtual spaces.

We invite students, researchers and professionals working with medieval archaeology and related fields to submit proposals for oral communications exploring these themes. The event will be held online and broadcasted via YouTube between 8-12 December, from 6 to 9pm (UTC -3).
Topics include (but are not restricted to)
Archaeogaming and the Middle Ages
Depictions of archaeologists in medievalist games
The archaeology of virtual environments
3D modeling and asset creation for games.
Medieval material culture in modern games
The Middle Ages in analog games
Medievalism and roleplay
Games as tools for history teaching and heritage education
Virtual/augmented reality and the medieval past
The materiality of medievalist games
Political and ideological uses of material culture in medievalist games
Decolonial/Anti-eurocentric approaches to digital archaeology and medievalist games
For more information or questions, please contact Dr. Vinicius Marino Carvalho at
midagesmodgames@gmail.com
Submissions are open until the 5th of November via the following link: https://sinsc.furg.br/fichainscricao/7823
We hope to see you there!

Very good, and the gameplay is similar enough that if you enjoyed the first game you'll likely enjoy the second. I'm not sure the story is as good, personally, but it's still very good! Worth it, basically, especially if you loved the first one.

Bought a switch (lite) copy of Hades 2 for work purposes while travelling this week, and wow it's very tiny after previously being on my gaming pc...

Makes me feel old. Look at all the tiny hard to see people!

Given her later career, there's quite a lot of other people's childhood involved. I don't remember it being too focused on her background for enjoyment though, so I think the ratio is not too bad...

Right, they were ordered by someone else's government though, which is rather different re potential penalties, and also surely you don't think there's an equivalence between a nazi salute and shaking hands...?
katexe.bsky.social
I'm glad you mentioned that they were acting under instruction - it seemed pretty clear from that Alison Mitchell interview the other day that the cricketers were being told by the government explicitly not to shake hands - I am not sure enough of the discussion is recognising that.

If you are a supporter and reader of @contingent-mag.bsky.social one of the biggest things you can do to help us at the moment is get this CFP to the NTT folks in your life. The fracturing of social media has made it very difficult to get the word out esp. to adjuncts and VAPs.
CFP: A Time of Monsters
The monster has been here all along. It is a historical constant that manifests in wildly different ways across time, place, and culture. Whatever form it takes, the monster claws at categories; it un...

I don't understand how this decision can be legitimate at all - it's not a possible edge case this, surely. It's just wrong. Not great to have that at a world cup. #INDvPKN

For teaching purposes I really just want something clear and readable, reasonably close to the original, and not costing a fortune in case students want their own... So if there's not a good modern paperback or it's not in any of the books with a few in at once, that's really not ideal!
