As someone who has been studying this for over a decade, my take on what 23andMe customers should really be worried about:
23andMe is potentially selling more than just genetic data – the personal survey info it collected is just as much a privacy problem
If you were a 23andMe customer, your genetic and personal information could be used in civil or criminal cases, targeted advertising, medical discrimination and so much more.

Walmart makes BILLIONS on SNAP spending while being one of the top employers of SNAP benefit participants.

So a mega corporation doesn’t pay employees enough to eat, saving BILLIONS only to go on to make BILLIONS when those employees spend tax payer funded SNAP benefits at Walmart.

Cool cool.
"Walmart accounts for roughly a quarter (24%) of SNAP shoppers’ total spending...this would imply a loss of about $2 billion for Walmart if the benefits are withheld for the entire month of November." www.newsweek.com/walmart-set-...

Curious what the 4th Circuit's opinion in GenBioPro v. Raynes means for state mifepristone regulation? Check out my new piece with @pzettler.bsky.social & Lewis Grossman in JAMA. We argue that preemption arguments are not dead, even though the court upheld WVA's abortion ban. 1/2

Wait…what?
RFK is undoing human subjects protections so he can conduct placebo trials of vaccines. That means infecting people knowingly. I wonder who will “volunteer” for these trials? If history is any guide, a lot of incarcerated and other powerless people.
Dismantling the Institutional Review Board (IRB), that oversees all human subjects research, is bad. Really bad.

The thesis is simple: when psychedelics are being pursued for medical use, they should be regulated like other medicines.

I thought I'd put the administration's proposed "compact" with universities in context, so I wrote the blog post below.

It's especially for journalists covering this story!

Many details about how the compact itself works and why the administration has retreated to this strategy.
