With this renewal of the spirit and the intentionality with which I step into the light, I will be mostly absent from social media henceforth, through the end of January 2026.

May you find peace in the promise of the solstice night
That each day forward is blessed with more light
That the cycle of nature unbroken and true
Brings faith to your soul and well-being to you.

I’m currently wearing my Pemberley shirt as I virtually attend Jane Austen’s 250th Birthday Party being live-streamed from the Jane Austen House in Chawton, Hampshire.

Opening night. Fancy movie theater. Reclining seats. Speciality cocktails. Good eats. And, oh, entertaining movie as well. Cynthia Erivo was marvelous. Ariana Grande fabulous. Michelle Yeoh magnificent. From Bridgerton to Wicked, Jonathan Bailey was good eye candy.

Fascinating read. Most of the major scientists of the last millennium were religious and believed both science and religion could coexist.

Attended an ink swatching event at my favorite stationery store featuring hundreds of inks. I was in search of a good chocolate brown: not too dark, reddish, pinkish, golden-ish, or any other ish. Just a rich brown. Took me an hour & a half to cover all the brown shades they had.

This morning Krissy was on the phone with our realtor talking about a thing regarding a contract and MY GOD it was amazing listening to her be so incredibly competent and direct and decisive HOLY JESUS unapologetic executive function is a hell of a thing to behold I fell in love all over again

Such sad news!! I’d known her for 20 years.
My good friend and writing buddy Tonda Fully (writing as Isobel Carr and Kalen Hughes) passed away today. I am sending love and hugs to everyone who knew her and to anyone who needs to know there are people who care.

I spent all day yesterday at a superbly curated stationery fest of artists & brands from Japan. Most of my stationery is Japanese; it was so amazing to meet these them in person. Also met up w/many friends. Had to drive 2 hours to & fro w/ lots of standing in lines. Best day!!!

An author I translate wrote about how she cried her eyes out reading @roxanegay.bsky.social’s HUNGER and I happened to be at the Strand where I found a signed copy of Gay’s OPINIONS and sent it to my author and it made her day

Can an AI translator do that?

NO

Proofreading really is your friend.

Wishing for a touch of the “oh là là,” national bookstore chain @barnesandnoble added the title “bibliothèque” to their tote bags, mass produced them & put ‘em in stores. No one noticed that the accent on the “e” is wrong.

When my oldest was only in single digits, she got to meet Jane personally (at Benaroya) and get a book signed by her. Jane graciously chatted with her and allowed us to take a photograph of the two of them. My kid was over the moon.
