I've been going through some old pics & stumbled upon this. Caught 8/6/21 and recorded it as Pseudococcyx turionella (Pine Bud Moth). But I'm now wondering if it is actually Pseudococcyx posticana (Dark Pine Shoot Moth). No measurements I'm afraid. Any thoughts @mothiduk.bsky.social? #teammoth

The Sorcerer from Kenfig last night. Finally got up the courage to remove it from the pot (after some others had seen it). As far as I know, fourth British record and first for Wales. Thanks to everyone for moral support during my meltdown. But, what a moth! #TeamMoth

Some moth-y highlights from my first two nights trapping in Charmouth, Dorset. Anania crocealis (Fleabane Pearl) is new for me. Sharp-angled Carpet & Portland Riband Wave are both UK firsts for me. And this Jersey Tiger is the first I've trapped in the UK. #teammoth #mothsmatter #bugsky

Black V-moth (Arctornis l-nigrum) - Normandy overnight 12/7/25. Only the second one I've seen. The first in the same location in Aug.'23

White-foot Moth (Epiblema foenella). I've only seen this species once before, at home in July '20.

Radford's Flame Shoulder (Ochropleura leucogaster). A migrant species in the UK. I've trapped one in Cornwall in Sept '24.

Phoenix (Eulithis prunata). Not a rare species, but one I've only seen once before - at home in July '24.

4/5: Final new species encountered in the Loire Valley. A stunning Spotted Sulphur (Acontia trabealis), sadly this was the only pic I managed as it rapidly departed. Idaea rubraria, hat-tip to App AI for flagging this one. Giant Grass-moth (Ancylolomia tentaculella). #mothsmatter #teammoth #bugsky

Spotted Sulphur (Acontia trabealis). Rapidly departed after this one pic. An extinct species in the UK, having formerly been found in Breckland in my home county of Norfolk.

Idaea rubraria - nearly dismissed as a Riband Wave, AI on App picked it up thankfully.

Porter's Rustic (Athetis hospes) - two individuals trapped on the night of the 11th in the Loire Valley were a new species for me.

The Passenger (Dysgonia algira). A new species for me this week in the Loire Valley. This is the second one caught, a little more receptive to a photo shoot than the first.

Eurodachtha pallicornella - not a species that occurs in the UK. Identified using AI in Apps, fancy antennae but otherwise not much to shout about!

His Majesty visited our allotment site in Norwich today!

While collecting water from the water tank this morning my efforts were rewarded by the sight of a male Purple Emperor butterfly, drinking on the track.

Still a bit quiet trapping in the Loire Valley, but still managed one new species, a lovely Lunar Thorn. Other highlights were a Dark Spectacle & another Dusky Marbled Brown, in much better condition than my first a couple of nights ago. #teammoth #mothsmatter #bugsky

Lunar Thorn (Selenia lunularia) - a new species for me

Dark Spectacle (Abrostola triplasia) - a fairly common moth in the UK, but one I've only encountered once on Isles of Scilly. Hopefully it will visit my garden soon!

Dusky Marbled Brown (Gluphisia crenata) - this individual is the second I've caught on this trip and in much finer condition than the first!

Lots of rain & much cooler nights have made trapping in the Loire Valley tricky over the last couple of nights. Just one new species encountered, but what a stonker!
