How does the media continue to applaud Iran's restraint while simultaneously implying that they would act differently were they to acquire nuclear weapons?Unless their enemies put them on death ground, which would be unlikely if they were a nuclear power, I cannot see them every deploying them.

Wow so you’re telling me everyone who cheered on the Iraq war is on board with this now too? And so are the people who opposed the Iran nuclear deal and killed it?

You’re kidding.

Trump bombing Iran without congressional approval was illegal and against international law, and this is what Carney has to say about it? Absolute pandering bullshit. Just embarrassing stuff.

My bare minimum expectation from the Liberals is to keep us out of America's messes. I will never vote for those fucks again if we get dragged in.

Over a million people died because of the Iraq War and subsequent American occupation. We haven't learned a goddamn thing.
June 22, 2025 at 9:18 PM
We need to completely abandon the idea that the U.S. is somehow a force of good in the world. That was a dubious claim to begin with, and Americans have jettisoned even their tepid commitment to that under Trump.

Not a single Canadian soldier should be obliged to risk their lives to assist American in this mess. They can lie in it without us.

After years of advocacy, applications for the $200/month Canada Disability Benefit opened today.

But the only provincial govt in Canada that will keep its citizens with disabilities from actually benefiting from it is the UCP.

They are the only ones clawing it back.

It’s cruel & shameful.

This is the simplest way to understand Israel's approach to conflicts it is engaging in. There is effectively no frame for peace on any front, but rather a continued pursuit of degradation of threats—a managed security situation in perpetuity.
There is basically no deal Iran could make and no assurance they could give that ISR would really accept; the goal for Netanyahu is a country so devastated that it physically cannot pose a threat.

I haven’t chimed in on Israel-Iran bc the whole thing is just too depressing, but let’s be very clear: there is no good end-game here.

basically yeah. my theory is that "knowing things" basically peaked in perceived coolness somewhere around 1970 and has been steadily declining ever since. being a nerd is definitionally about your relationship to trivia but trivia isn't actually the same as expertise
I think a lot of the terror of the modern age can be understood by the fact that the Internet accelerated the development of the worst type of person, the "Anti-Intellectual Nerd."

I don't think Trump fully understands how precarious the path he's walking can become.

I don't think we're prepared to face how enormously expensive managing forest fires will be in the future.

Stoked about vast regions of Canada already being on fire before June. I hate starting every fire season like this.

Every single one of them can get F-ed. It's beyond having offended Canadians, it's no longer SAFE to go travel and they ALL know that. F-ing sociopaths.

I shouldn't, but I still find it wild that MAGA is cheering on the destruction of the very things that made America exemplary and capable of being more than their sordid history and glaring flaws. I will constantly go to bat for quality public education in an attempt to preclude this insanity.

The expectation from certain corners of Alberta that the federal Environment Minister should be pro O&G looks like a collective delusion from my vantage point. The entire country isn't ensorcelled by that particular industry. That's just an embarrassingly large portion of Alberta.

I need to stress the importance of avoiding situations where you're at the mercy of the arbitrary whims of a border agent in a country that's rapidly descended into fascism. Stay away if you have that privilege.

The most annoying thing about Smith's demands for mass legislation repeal is that it completely ignores the other stakeholders in the equation. No legislation is explicitly about screwing a place or people. Maybe we should try to understand why some Canadians want the legislation we find limiting.
May 6, 2025 at 2:26 PM
Do you think Smith opening the door to separation is going to make it more or less likely that we will see movement on interprovincial infrastructure to benefit Alberta? We're going to be seen as a weak link during a crisis.

I'm genuinely curious as to whether the CPC emptied their war chest on this one. That's going to influence their behavior a fair bit.

The Liberals were in the toilet. MPs bailed on Trudeau left, right & centre. Pierre Poilievre was going to be PM w/ 200+ seats.

And Bruce Fanjoy rolled his sleeves up in spite of all of that & fought the darnedest grassroots campaign.

Goes to show there's still value in doorstep politics. #cdnpoli
