If you're missing HBO's The Gilded Age you can relive it from the eyes of the ever critical interior decorator, Edith Wharton.

Thank you to @queline.bsky.social for editing this video for me! If it seems well done... that's why!
Are the Gilded Age interiors accurate?

There was a winner. After a week of testing, YouTube chose 'I'm looking' because it had the largest watch time comparatively. I'm glad cause that one was my favorite! youtu.be/XHdjb7Qgrh8

Last year YouTube introduced A/B tests for thumbnails and I don't know if I like them. I've used them consistently since then, but I don't love that everyone experiences the video a little differently. So here are all the thumbnails and if YT makes a choice you can be like... ugh they are so wrong.

The New Yorker put out an article in May on 'notable New Yorkers' living rooms. Then I compiled all the photos into a spreadsheet so I could say "89% of 'notable New Yorkers' have white walls."

My podcast, Someone Lived Here, had its annual episode come out today! It takes you inside the home of writer Sarah Orne Jewett. She wrote beautifully about Maine and was the inspiration for writers like Willa Cather.

Just checking back in to see where we stand on this @bostonglobe.com fake front page from pre-election 2016
A front page of The Boston Globe that was mocked up ahead of the 2016 presidential election in the US with estimations of how Donald Trump's presidency might unfold. The banner head at the top says "Deportations to Begin" over a large photo of Trump. Additional headlines at the sides and bottom of the page reference a trade war, a new libel law, and US soldiers defying orders to kill ISIS families.

While looking for details on the photography studio of these photos I found the blog, Cabinet Card Curiosities. Sent him an email to let him know about these photos and they both have been added to the fantastic collection he has created online!

I only know of one photo of Harriet Jacobs. It was taken at Gilbert Studios in Philadelphia in 1894. I was curious about the studio and ended up finding this photo of Helen Keller and actor, Joseph Jefferson, sitting on an identical chair in 1902.
1894 photo of Harriet Jacobs, around age 80, in ornate wooden chair. 1902 photo of Helen Keller, 22 years old, touching the face of actor Joseph Jefferson, age 73, who is sitting in ornate wooden chair.

One of my favorite quotes from this video was "A capitalist might as well curtain off a star, or have the monopoly of an hour."
Quote from NP Willis about keeping the outdoors available to people: “To fence out a genial eye from any corner of the earth which Nature has lovingly touched with her pencil, which never repeats itself to shut up a glen or a water-fall for one man's exclusive knowing or enjoying to lockup trees and glades, shady paths and haunts among rivulets, would be an embezzlement by one man of God's gift to all. A capitalist might as well curtain off a star, or have the monopoly of an hour. Doors may lock, but out-doors is a freehold to feet and eyes."

Latest video combines: Blue Prince, floor plan books from the 1840s, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, and the story of Harriet Jacobs. Had such a good time making this one!

When I clicked on the link from an Ai kitchen it brought me to an Etsy page selling a PDF of cottage core paint colors. Ai images (and presumably words) about what Sherwin Williams paint colors to put in your house. Just grim all around.

Went on Pinterest for a screenshot in an upcoming video and am shocked by all the AI. I heard it was bad, but I didn’t realize it was so so unusable.
