Gen-x exceptionalism needs to be studied by anthropologists. "We remember the lyrics to the songs of our youth" has to be the least extraordinary claim anyone can make.

"I ask you, how can God's love survive in a man who has enough of this world's goods yet closes his heart to his brother in need?"

I appropriately conclude my architecture research trip with a stroll through the Dulles terminal at sunrise.

This place is 🔥

(They got me with "intregralism" years ago, and I'm not falling for that again, lol.)

I feel like I have a pretty sizeable vocabulary. But I don't know what "atavistic" means, and I have no intention of looking it up, fully confident that I can get through life without it.

Candy corn is good and I'm tired of pretending it's not.

It was a popular complaint some time ago in certain Catholic circles, especially online. Not sure if it still is, but I don't talk to those people very much anymore.

But I think it was just grasping for reasons to justify them just not liking the song for other reasons.

And 2) is not saying grace suddenly appeared because he started believing. There's an adjective in the sentence, for crying out loud. It's saying the gift of grace appeared *precious* when he began believing. It's a prayer of gratitude for the precious gift of grace.

This is how I feel when people say Amazing Grace is heretical because of 1) "a wretch like me" and 2) "how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed."

Sorry, but 1) is not a statement of total depravity. It's a line from a reformed slaveship captain. He gets to call himself a wretch.

I think it's fun to thumb my nose at all the petty little parenting moral panics, like parents against Frozen because Elsa sings the words "no right, no wrong, no rules for me" who cares. It's in a context. She's having a moment. It's not some grand misleading moral message.

Honestly, prerequisite for ministry (in practice anyway)

I got an IRL Nat 20 on my investigation check!

Hey, DC/Baltimore friends, I'm in town through Thursday - would love to meet up if possible (I have a pretty tight schedule though).

Shoot me a DM

ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants

Vance: "If you're an American citizen & you've been to the hospital in the last few years, you've probably noticed wait times are especially large & very often somebody who's there in the ER is an illegal alien. Why do those people get healthcare benefits at hospitals paid for by American citizens?"

While it's entirely possible that the chiropractor came first, I like to think they opened after the dispensary and went for the double pun.

Thinking again about how the rich man

A. Loses his name/is subsumed into that to which he was attached

B. Even in his torment cannot imagine a world in which Lazarus is not his inferior

C. Shows quite a bit of concern for his family, which does not seem to be sufficient in the final accounting

Cool.

Looking at that photo I'm amazed at the amount of product in Travolta's hair

@axolitl.bsky.social I logged into twitter to post this to ska thread, and it's all just a bunch broken links to tweets from accounts that no longer exist. Yet another casualty of Leon Musk.
