I suppose 8 on a Sunday ain't too bad. The right side of Wildean behaviour that is.

6:18am, sure the day's half over already. Don't tell me you were still in bed!

No sunrise on this morning's run, too cloudy and misty. But the M60 floodlights beyond the lake kinda make up for it.

Lovely to see Ultra Women longlisted in @bookieprize.bsky.social amongst a sea of men's sports books. @emmajourno.bsky.social and I fought to have the stories of these women told and we're delighted our perseverance paid off 😃 #WHSBOTY

Just another early morning run-swim outing along the Mersey and in Sale Water Park this morning for Juno, the black Lab, and me.

Well, glad to hear it. It left you a wiser swimmer I'm sure!

A shot of the morning sky and beach at Lowestoft, when I was there on Saturday.

I have thought that for a swimmer caught up in it, a strategy might be to let the tide take you around the corner into Killiney Bay, where it should lose force and spread out. Then coming ashore there should be easier. Obviously best to avoid the situation in the first place!
killianobrien.bsky.social
But I also remember being there with younger canoeists who were struggling to make progress against the tide, so we needed to wait it out for an hour or so in the harbour, before continuing.
killianobrien.bsky.social
Great pic. And yes the tidal race between the island and the coast there can be very strong. In my teenage Scout canoeing days, the stronger canoeists would often seek it out, using the resulting standing waves there for surfing practice.

The Irish government said they would make this life-saving change but then they went back in their word so a whole bunch of pedestrians and cyclists are going to die for no reason. #SpeirGorm

Almost 900 fewer people have been injured on Welsh roads since the default speed limit was lowered from 30 to 20mph two years ago

Casualties on 20 to 30mph roads between July and September 2024 were the lowest for the three month-period since records began in 1979

👏 Evidence-led policy
Nearly 900 fewer people injured since 20mph introduction in Wales
Figures show a 25% reduction in the number of injuries on Wales' roads in the past 18 months.

A joke I remember from school was that someone asked Miley from Glenroe what the single yellow line meant? 'No parking at all', he replied. And what does a double yellow line mean? 'No parking at all at all'.

Good stuff. I was in my local lake in Manchester this morning. (That's my dog about to swim into my left ear!) Was also in Dublin at the Forty Foot and Vico Road a couple of weeks ago. My lake is still a couple of degrees warmer than the Irish Sea. Their temps will cross over at some stage.

Cheers David. We won't be too far away so. I'll wave from Lowestoft. Enjoy the walk.

A nice sun rising behind Stretford House during my 10 mile run this morning. Taking it easy through the week now in the lead up to Saturday's 50km race on the Suffolk Coastal Path from Lowestoft to Aldeburgh.

August CO2 and methane data at NOAA just dropped.

The 3-year running average for the rate of CO2 growth continues to increase (now at 7.78 ppm per 3 years), and is nearing an all-time high.

Maybe if we all just hope a bit more, I'm sure that will change everything.
