Apropos of nothing, I'm not going to argue with strangers on this site. If you want to debate me, you've got the wrong guy. I will probably just mute you and forget you exist.

The orchard in the Mother & Baby Home where I was born has been abandoned since the 90s but still bears fruit, which, abandoned, falls to the ground and rots. The nuns' beloved greenhouse is wrecked but still has dessicated grapes hanging there. If I was a novelist I would find a metaphor here.

The should rename it “425ppm CO2”. And rename it 12 times a year as the number creeps up month by month by month.
The Dáil has heard a suggestion that Dublin Airport be named after the former Taoiseach Sean Lemass.

Any counteroffers?

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

Scenes at the Dublin City Council budget meeting last night. The histrionics from the ruling group betray their guilty consciences. I’ll also note that champion of the working class Mannix Flynn went missing during the vote, meaning the ruling group won 31-30. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

About twitter / X - it's no longer a social network, it's a discourse-poisoning megaphone for a drug-addled misanthropic billionaire who wants to return us to the rule of kings.

Can’t believe I’m whinging about op-eds in the Irish Times again, but this is dire stuff. I grew up in the 80s in a household with a minority religion and the notion that the Catholic majority were a tolerant live-and-let-live bunch is NOT how I remember it www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2025...
Opinion: A McCarthyite fervour has overtaken Ireland where Israel is concerned
The issue I have is not that Ireland is pro-Palestinian - its people’s rights and future must be protected - but that it is so aggressively anti-Israel

I had a popular account with a valuable audience and my Twitter payout was $80 a month-ish, to the point where I disabled monetization instead of uploading my ID. Payouts are only material if you live in a developing country, so “guy in Nigeria posting right-wing Amerislop” has taken over the site.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

John Collison was talking utter garbage and it says so much that so many politicians fell over themselves to fellate him for writing a pack of lies

The Irish Times published and lauded John Collison's op-ed, but did they fact-check it?

Andrew Jackson did. Thoroughly.

If you spent time reading the original, you'd want to give time to this counterpoint as well.

For anyone in Dublin city centre later today, I'm chairing a conversation between @sineadgibney.bsky.social TD and Dr Tom Cowin on the subject of "is right wing populism unstoppable?". We're the second session, so we'll be kicking off around 3:30pm - Academy Plaza Hotel, just off Cathal Brugha St.

This, in a nutshell, is where we’re at. All the lies, the distraction, NGO-blaming and drive towards even further deregulation is to cover the naked fact that, in Ireland, big polluters pull the strings and our politicians just nod along.

How is this colossal weirdo the Euro Commission President? This is demented stuff.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today that the fight against climate change was not against the fuels that cause it — only the pollution they emit.
Von der Leyen says EU is not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions
The comment could undermine European countries’ push at COP30 to move away from coal, oil and gas.
