🧵 Am I surprised they gave Maria Corina Machado the Nobel Peace Prize? No. Does she deserve it? Also, no. There’s a reason she was barred from running for office in Venezuela: multiple violent coup attempts and calling of foreign governments, like Israel, to invade Venezuela.

You’re right Alan. This is far from in the bag. A huge number of conservative voters will turn out and vote HH. The challenge for the Connolly campaign is to mobilise enough people to come out on the day. I’d be worried given recent Presidential and other second-order vote turnouts.

Our next big action for the #Connolly4President campaign is this Saturday, 11am - we'll be leafletting, which is simply putting a leaflet into the mail slot and speaking to anyone you see out and about.

A very easy-going activity for anyone who is new to the campaign!

I’ve met Jim Gavin, I think he’s a decent person, I won’t be voting for him but he’s certainly an interesting candidate.

But this is hardly a ringing endorsement for the leader’s choice against someone who only appeared as the internal FF candidate a few weeks back. Tús bocht…

I feel more sorry for tenants ripped off by landlords and for the victims of the housing crisis created and continued by FF & FG.

But on a human level I do feel sorry for Jim Gavin. He was put into a position of major scrutiny without proper consideration by FF. What on earth were they thinking?

Leave aside the Connolly campaign. Consider all the people who go through garda vetting. That is a significant bloc of the population- volunteer parents helping kids in sports, at scouts, in charities.

Will that police data leak if the Gardaí want to intervene in a political campaign in the future?

“In recent weeks there was a near consensus among members of the United Nations that a Palestinian State should be recognized as an essential building block for peace in the region.

We might well ask where stands this commitment now if a flotilla involving more than 40 boats and more than 500 people from the international community seeking to bring humanitarian aid - water, medicines and food to those who are in desperate need - is being prevented from achieving that humanitarian objective.

The safety and protection of those involved in this humanitarian exercise is a concern for all of us and all of the nations from which the people come.

Gaza and the West Bank are part of what would be a Palestinian State. It is to occupied territory that the flotilla is directing its humanitarian mission.

At the same time as this is occurring, the exit from northern Gaza towards the south is in danger of being blocked, leaving a civilian population who could not be more vulnerable to the mercy of endless bombing and the destruction of their homes.

Put together with the now clearly recognised breaches of international law and the status of the International Committee of the Red Cross being forced to suspend operations in Gaza City to this civilian population, all of these events should alarm the entire world.”
