Yes, folks on fixed income, and those whose wages are outpaced by rent increases, very vulnerable to being forced out of their homes. So sad/ironic since tax increases can be used to keep people housed.
kimzippel.bsky.social
Yikes!! That’s way above the annual guideline for raising rent in Ontario. If municipal taxes have supersized that increase then other landlords are going to do the same.

I am so sorry 😣

Thanks, Dylan. These pictures are very instructive. I’m not sure why contractors are not required to sweep up the debris, and to install barriers to prevent carryover into stormwater drains. Environmental protection should be a mandatory requirement. We can do so much better than this!

This @cityptbo.bsky.social road micro resurfacing is a macro problem for the health of our waterways.

All of this loose asphalt is left to wash into our streams via storm drains.

Don’t we have better methods to protect the environment while fixing road surfaces?

Ideas @brenttoderian.bsky.social?

Cleaning and sorting donated books for our #LittleLendingLibrary this morning 🙂

The kiddos are out of school now, so a great time, if you have gently loved kids and teen books at home, to drop them off at a neighbourhood or municipal library.

Always a need for large print books too!

It’s been a spectacular week for seeing warblers in backyard gardens and parks, Jackie. Imagine they’re loving the fruit trees you planted!

Sorry, bit misleading, and you’re right, those are ospreys in the first photo with the article and the osprey is the official bird of the City of Kawartha Lakes!

Great guess, Mary, but Peterborough’s city bird is the Great Blue Heron!

It’s World Migratory Bird Day! 🦉

DYK that #Ptbo is a certified Bird Friendly City?

Can you identify our city bird?

Our community protects birds by:

🐦 avoiding pesticides
🐦 keeping 🐈🐈‍⬛ indoors
🐦 promoting habitat creation & protection
🐦 making windows bird-friendly

Great tips to help birds ⬇️

Clear, comprehensive, integrated. Lots of support for protecting the local food supply, farmers, greenhouse growers. Lots of support for environment and women's / Indigenous / 2SLGBTQ rights built into many areas, not just token investments. He's an economist so I trust this budget to be achievable.

As many homes, farms and businesses are still without power, and we move into recovery and clean-up mode following the ice storm, our team is taking time to do the same.

Please stay safe around fallen trees and power lines. Remember to be kind and check on your neighbours.

All routes remain suspended until the roads can be assessed. I’ll keep an eye on when they go out again.
They’re checking for obstructions, like fallen trees or power lines, or hydro crews working in the middle of the road.
Check before you go as there are a ton of places still out.

The @cityptbo.bsky.social has declared a state of emergency to aid recovery from the weekend ice storm. Tireless Public Works & Hydro teams continue to remove downed branches & restore power to homes & businesses 👷🏽‍♀️👷🏻‍♂️🙏🏻
