I want this for us

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

Seriously, we should not be allowing Americans into Canada without a medical certificate declaring them free of Covid, Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox, Ebola, Polio, etc.

Seriously.
As a public health scientist?
I cannot stress enough how poorly prepared this administration is for an ultra deadly & infectious disease like Ebola to make landfall here in the USA.
The best defense for the USA is fast resolution of an outbreak overseas.

RIFed:

Several CDC staff currently working on an Ebola outbreak overseas.

You know — the ones literally helping contain and prevent it from spreading. (Like, to the U.S.)

Trust us: dying from Ebola is a MISERABLE way to die.

Fake AI videos mocking dead celebrities are going viral. We talked to their families, and they're horrified.

I would say about 80% of the time I end up including a publication directly from the US government. Something from the CDC, the VA, AHRQ, MMWR. What’s happening in the US will deeply affect Canadian healthcare, research, policies etc as well. We are losing credible sources of info. 2/2

Doug Ford is not the mayor of Ontario!
“Simply put, the local issues that directly affect city residents should be decided by them and their local representatives.
Local affairs are not improved by having Mr. Ford blunder into them.” www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/edit... #topoli #onpoli

And scene.

Ontario hospitals will be "rescued" by private capita, as intended.

Mob Hospital has brought in customer service consultants, and cabinet is invested in the healthcare precinct.

UHN has space for your health insurance info on the new ID bracelets.

The bust out reaches its conclusion.

If it could be remediated by GE, it could be retrofit for housing which we desperately need. But GE has not indicated what it has in mind for the site or if they plan to clean up the toxins. We do know that they will save money on commercial property taxes if they tear it down.

I would like Doug Ford to stop trying to direct international economics and diplomacy, and start repairing the damage he has done to health care, housing, education and the environment. Just because he wants to see American cars built in Ontario, doesn't mean that is the best course for Canada atm.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

Ensuring people have the wherewithal to eat and sleep with a roof over their heads is a great start. But I’d take issue with the idea of basic income (or jail!) replacing the Canada Council: grants to arts organizations help pay artists, yes, but also lower barriers to access for Canadians.

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

In 1999, Bill Clinton announced that “the last, best unprotected wild lands anywhere in our nation” would be shielded by a new rule that banned roads and drilling.

Today, these lands could soon see chainsaws and logging trucks amid a push by Trump to raze these ecosystems for timber.
Outcry as Trump plots the plunder of US forests: "You can almost hear the chainsaws"
Public comments suggest repealing the Clinton-era "roadless rule" is wildly unpopular.

Sad to see demolition of some of these historic buildings w/o a review of GE's report, ignoring PACAC. I spent a lot of time with the site and with reports on their toxicity for a project led by Anne White in 2020. Review by Nick Taylor for @arthurnews.bsky.social www.trentarthur.ca/news/mapping...
