I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?
Donald Trump Truth Social Post: Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also.

Ensuring people have the wherewithal to eat and sleep with a roof over their heads is a great start. But I’d take issue with the idea of basic income (or jail!) replacing the Canada Council: grants to arts organizations help pay artists, yes, but also lower barriers to access for Canadians.

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

In 1999, Bill Clinton announced that “the last, best unprotected wild lands anywhere in our nation” would be shielded by a new rule that banned roads and drilling.

Today, these lands could soon see chainsaws and logging trucks amid a push by Trump to raze these ecosystems for timber.
Outcry as Trump plots the plunder of US forests: "You can almost hear the chainsaws"
Public comments suggest repealing the Clinton-era "roadless rule" is wildly unpopular.

I suspect that I'm going to be repeating "these books are medicinal" a lot.

If we really want to make this stop, we can. We need to shut everything down and protest every day until it happens.

Nike is supplying all the masks to the ICE agents.

You know what to do.

Sad to see demolition of some of these historic buildings w/o a review of GE's report, ignoring PACAC. I spent a lot of time with the site and with reports on their toxicity for a project led by Anne White in 2020. Review by Nick Taylor for @arthurnews.bsky.social www.trentarthur.ca/news/mapping...

No offence taken, just trying to understand from all angles. 👍

Do you think he should poke the bear?

Absolutely. It's a moving target. Best to try not to invite vengeance, but for now keep rolling with it.

Anyone on here who expects Carney coming away from this meeting with an advantageous deal for Canada is deluded. Not because Carney is incompetent (as PeePee alludes), but because Carney is trying to negotiate with a man who is stark, raving mad.

Canada‘s Conservative Party (their House Leader Scheer on CBC) is claiming that anything less than the complete removal of tariffs is PM Carney “failing” and “breaking his promise.”

I expect a lot from Carney, but the Conservatives constantly remind me how they’d be worse. Unserious hypocrites.

Do people realize that Trump and Miller are creating so many valid civil causes of action that taxpayers will be paying billions of dollars—if not tens of billions—to their innocent victims and their families over the next 25 years?

America will be digging itself out of a hole for decades to come.

“Stop watching America like a multi car crash on an icy highway! Time for looking at this authoritarian nightmare and hoping it won’t come to 🇨🇦 is over! MAGA is here with Premiers supporting Trump regime and Alberta talking 51st State! We must act now!”

Only 5 years ago, the world was largely co-operating to prevent a pandemic, rushing to make a vaccine that would curtail a humanitarian catastrophe. And now: genocide, disappearing innocent people, silencing media and education, overwriting history, extinguishing human rights. Who the fuck are we?

If AI is so smart, why hasn't it figured out how to run its data processing systems without using water and creating massive carbon emissions?

The infantilisation of Greta Thunberg is ableist. AND people not accounting for her Autism is reductive and disingenuous.

What happened to her and others from the flotilla is atrocious, clearly illegal, demonstrative of Israel as a terrorist state.
