Winter in rural southern Scotland brings the most spectacular starling murmurations! As a child, I thought these were just magical.
Saw an amazing one a few moments ago - will attempt to be quick enough to get a video next time!

Before putting the Christmas decorations up I must deep clean the whole house…this is what everyone does, right?!

A reply to the last thread I shared reminded me about this article, it is a great read about the ‘3 cueing’ method used in the USA.
As someone who learned to read in UK schools using phonics, I didn’t know about this until very recently and found it shocking.

Both fascinating and very concerning - worth reading the full thread.

On a personal level, really reaffirms how I’m home educating my kids with a focus on critical thinking, building resilience, broad literacy skills and not using any AI.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

I couldn’t afford a car until I was 27 (I’m 39 now) and I just drive them until they’re extremely uneconomical to keep repairing…so I’ve owned 3!
Introduce yourself with 5 cars you've owned:

Mid 80’s-late 90’s. Many more but these were memorable for one reason or another.

VW Beetle
Austin Allegro
‘Polski Fiat’ (yes indeedy)
Sierra Sapphire
Toyota Celica (technically not owned as it was a company car but I did pay towards it 😁)
Introduce yourself with 5 cars you've owned:

Renault 5 GT Turbo
Mini Advantage (old school complete with dented* chrome bumpers)
Audio TT convertible
Honda Jazz
Kia Sportage

*I liked to think of it as adding extra character. Mine just stopped dead in the rain. BMW doing well, tbh.

As we’re home educating, kids don’t get their vaccinations in school so need to arrange it myself and I just wish everyone I’ve dealt with at the NHS (for other stuff) over the past few weeks was as knowledgeable, organised and helpful as the nurse that heads the vaccination team!

This afternoon’s homeschooling was all about the Moon for my younger kid, in which we learned about moon phases, atmosphere, gravity, craters and exploration but MOST IMPORTANTLY he created this glorious papier-mâché CHEESE MOON called MOOLET!!! 😁

We’re behind in watching AEW and just caught up with Blood and Guts. We thought the women’s match was MUCH more exciting and entertaining than the men. An awesome inaugural match!! 🤼‍♂️

Having a rough day, then a flower delivery arrived! A late engagement gift from my oldest friend (we met in playgroup at 4 years old!)- what a lovely thing to brighten the day!! 😊🥰

What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

OMG!! HIS OUTFIT!!! 😍😍😍😍
As far as I know, David Tennant was the only Doctor actor to show up at the BAFTA Scotland Awards last night.

Searching for a book of short stories for my next read as focusing on a novel is too much for me just now. I want magical realism, urban and gritty but no gore or gratuitous violence.

2002? I got NOTHING! Unfortunately, I couldn’t describe anything that came out that year as more than just okay. ☹️
What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?

I do not claim these are all perfect but I definitely listened to them a lot!

A thread of mince pie reviews - ongoing throughout the festive season!

Morrisons (shortcrust, basic ones) - absolutely gross, threw the rest of the packet in the bin. 0/5

Co-op (shortcrust, bakery dept) - nice pastry, bit too thick. Filling was good texture but no flavour. 2/5

Having to haul my hungry and depressed self to the supermarket means I’ll undoubtedly return with an absolute feast of junk food. Mmm…all the crisps.
