the answer to every question is I don't know, I'm not speculating and I'm being VERY well looked after. And if you advise me to eat/drink/do ANYTHING I'll implode.
Sod New Year's resolution - LIFE resolution.
Man answering his phone on the train: Yes? Correct, I’m not at work (pause) I’m not going to answer that because I am not at work today. No, you’re going to have to ask someone who is. Goodbye.

In my experience it's for the grandparents. Apparently THEY are 'proper' photos.
School photos are kitschy and expensive—but parents can’t seem to stop buying them. Annie Midori Atherton on the portrait’s enduring appeal:

This is a Very Good Read. One of the effects of my concussion, etc is that my filter has been WELLIED. It is so liberating! Meeting at work, outside my JD & with 0 value to my work - "Deeply uncomfortable with that". Would I like to...? - "Absolutely not".

Introducing @alistaircoleman.bsky.social to A Very Yorkshire Christmas. I'd forgotten how very very* it is.

I'm in hospital & ok: getting to the bottom of what's wrong and all the signs lead to recoverable not degenerative (very minor!) brain injury.

1. Wear a bicycle helmet
2. Don't be a fanny & overload your bike
3. Don't be a fanny & cycle when you aren't allowed to drive b/c of fractured ankle

Bigging up. Not bugging. There's definitely been a big chunk of brain dislodged. FFS.

More bugging up the #nhs. My 4th Dec ophthalmology appt was brought forward to a couple of days ago, I had a brain scan today and another appt booked for 18th. And every single person has been SO kind to me.

I'm fine, but reducing screen time etc & with best will in the world, etc,
Just to big up the #nhs: went for routine eye test last Friday (FOC - thx Scots Gov). 1/2 hour check turned into 2 hours, referred, received letter this morning with appt with consultant for 4th Dec. I'm not speculating - I don't know & am not 2nd guessing but jeez that was fast.

Chip Shop Scots is the world's most difficult language to learn. It ought to be on Duolingo.

Can vouch for this. I have a beautifully (and exactly 90mins) curated playlist that could only have been bettered if a) was on C90
b) I had a tape deck on which to play it

b) is optional tbh - I'd be happy as Larry holding the cassette & reading the inlay.
Oh but they did learn how to cue particular songs towards the end! (By the time that CDs existed, to be fair.) Compact, portable, unfussy.

AND MIX TAPES! The Gen Z dating crisis will end as soon as they start spending their evenings constructing flawless A and B side runs and handwriting inlays.

If you are looking for a significant but not £££ouchy Christmas present - for example for your son or daughter's girlfriend who you know is very important but you don't really know that well YET, I am delighted (& hope she will be!) with this purchase.

We are watching Chernobyl and I was SURE Jared Harris had played Gordievsky in A Traitor & a Spy based on Ben McIntyre's book.

It appears I dreamt it, but wouldn't that be great casting?

It's going on my 'despite ALL* the things, it's Christmas and I love it' WFH when things get stressy playlist. Right nooo.

*Work - everything** else is bloody lovely
**Excluding the fascist shit show out there, obvs
The problem with that Whamageddon thing is that Last Christmas is a stone cold banger and trying to avoid it proves that you don't truly understand the meaning of the season, to celebrate our Lord and Savior, Saint George Michael.

Still grumpy that Clubland (354) was abruptly replaced by a channel playing dire Xmas songs.

However. Currently on Now 80s (356), Clare Grogan is hosting a "St. Andrew's Day 30" program of Scottish hits. It's a reminder that a nation of ~5 million folk has relentlessly made so much good music.

This is so obvious once it's laid out in front of you (ME). It hadn't clicked at all. Thanks @garius.bsky.social
Streamins service UI is increasingly bad deliberately. It's dark UX patterning as access to show catalogues narrows.

If you let the user search, they will look for shows you no longer have (or never had).

The goal is to hijack that journey and force a show they'll feel is 'okay' in front of them.
is there a reason why every single paid streaming service UI has only gotten incredibly worse and less usable over time
